Late winter gardening
Return to Discussions@NoTanLines - Do you have a double wall/insulated greenhouse or heat heat source? Where I'm at in N.W. Montana, plants in our single wall greenhouse tend get get frosted. We have a majority of cloudy days in winter, that doesn't heat things up much. We have just planted some early greens in there and have manged to keep the rosemary alive by covering it. We can't safely plant out in the ground until May so are waiting to start a lot. We're anxious though and are setting it up and have the leeks started.

No greenhouse, just living in the Midlands of South Carolina. Temps have not stayed below 30 for almost all of the winter. Today will be in the 70s, it was yesterday and sunny as well.
I just have a single walled homemade hoophouse with no external heat (see picture I posted in this group's photo section). I have one gallon bottles filled with black colored antifreeze and I cover the plants at night with reflective bubble wrap. The spinach and kale don't grow much during the winter, but we are still able to harvest and enjoy it fresh. Our coldest temp so far has been -16 degrees.
