Drove past the entrance of Blind Creek yesterday
I was in Ft Pierce doing some errands and decided to drive by the Blind Creek entrance to take a look.
A few observations:
There is a lot of curbing in the lot with islands. While it looks pretty, it greatly reduces the amount of parking spaces. I am sure the curbing is to keep people from parking in and damaging the green spaces.
There is a pre-fab building being constructed in the west (road) end of the parking lot. Is this where the rest rooms and showers will be? If it is, it will mean walking or driving across the parking lot, obviously not nude, to get to the shower or restroom :-( The only reason I can think of is if it is on a septic system it may have to be a certain distance from the ocean, or if it is connected to a sewer system the drain lines may not be able to have the necessary pitch to drain properly. If this is where it will be, it is still better than what we had which was nothing except porta-potties
From what I see, the December 1 opening date looks possible, but considering the progress, or lack thereof on this project, I think it is unlikely.
While I could not enter, I took a couple pics from the entrance.
Thanks for the update. It doesn't make sense to have the restrooms so far from the beach. If you need to use the restroom, you'll have to cover up to go there. While I'm glad to see progress being made, it certainly is taking a very long time.
If it is connected to a sewer line at the street,
The minimum slope for a drain pipe depends on its diameter: (1/4) inch per foot for pipes 2.5 inches or smaller,(1/8 inch per foot for pipes 3to 6 inches, and1/16 inch per foot for pipes 8 inches or larger. These minimum slopes are important for ensuring proper drainage and preventing clogs by allowing the water to carry solids along
Assuming a 6" diameter pipe and the trailhead being an estimated 400' from the road, this would require about a 50" drop. (1" per 8' , 4008=50) Since in Florida there is no risk of the ground freezing, water and sewer pipes are not buried as deep as up north so it may not have been feasible to have it by the trailhead.
If it is on a septic system:
First off I suspect that the county would prefer to avoid that since there would be maintenance (pumping) required and I am sure there is a bunch of EPA and DEC regulations regarding placement, design and maintenance.
As I stated, its not the best, but a whole lot better than what we had.

Even at Haulover you have to cover to use the restrooms. Surprising since you can buy lunch and get to the showers without cover. Again possibly a sewer issue.
