Call for Volunteers - Global Study on Naturism & Social Stigma (SSM)
Hello everyone,
Naturism and nudism are often discussed emotionally, ideologically, or defensively. What has been missing for decades is something far more powerful: structured, comparable evidence.
NaturismRE is currently developing the Standardised Stigma Measure (SSM), a world-first research framework designed to measure how social stigma toward nudism and naturism actually operates, across cultures, countries, age groups, and lived experiences.
This is not a survey to promote any organisation, nor a political campaign.
It is a neutral, data-driven initiative intended to answer questions such as:
Where does stigma actually come from?
How does it differ between public nudity, social nudity, and private naturism?
How do gender, age, geography, and exposure affect perceptions?
What stigma is imagined, and what stigma is real?
We are now seeking volunteer participants from the nudist and naturist community worldwide to help validate and refine the SSM.
What participation involves

No explicit content
No sexual framing
No obligation to support NaturismRE
Designed to be respectful of all comfort levels
Why this matters
Without measurable data, nudism and naturism are easy to dismiss.
With evidence, they become defensible, discussable, and protectable.
SSM is being designed so it can later be used by:
researchers
councils
policymakers
media
health and social institutions

Anything that can de-stigmatise nudism / naturism would be a good thing. There is lots of ignorance out there about this topic and it's based on assumption and mis-information often it seems to me. Many people have opinions based on what they have heard or read but never experienced. If we can help change that and educate that's great. Not sure I want our CO beaches packed but more people and more variety of people would be great.

A brief clarification may be helpful.
The Standardised Stigma Measure (SSM) is not a survey designed only for nudists or naturists, and it is not contingent on my personal identity. For stigma to be meaningfully measured, perspectives from non-nudists, former nudists, critics, and the broader public are essential. Stigma largely exists outside the community, not only within it.
Surveying only those who already agree would produce advocacy, not evidence.
The purpose of SSM is to establish structured, comparable data on how stigma actually operates across different contexts, levels of exposure, cultures, and lived experiences. That includes supportive views, neutral views, and critical views alike.
To those who expressed support for de-stigmatisation and education, thank you. Many opinions are formed without direct experience, and evidence is the only way to move the discussion beyond assumption.
