True Nudists and True Swingers

There is a group on TN called TRUENudists who are also TRUESwingers. This is quite a popular group in that it has over 800 members. I don't have any problem with this concept as long as the swinging is kept separate form the nudism at leaston this site. What I would like to know from the swingers is the acceptance of that life style by the general pubic. It seems to me that whenever the different life styles are addressed by the general public, the swingers are thought of as generally normal people but greatly over sexed. The nudists. on the other hand, are thought to be some kind of weirdos. Am I wrong here in my assessment, or has anyone else felt this way? If this assessment is correct than I am quite perplexed. I am a monogamous male who also happens to be a nudist but, in my case, the nudist life style must be kept private. I don't believe the same degree of privacy must be maintained by the swingers. What are your thoughts on this? Am I right or wrong? Thank you.

Interesting topic. I believe the general public has a pretty good idea of what swingers are whether or not they approve of that lifestyle. On the other hand I believe the general public is almost totally ignorant about nudism, but they seem to mostly have a rather low opinion of it. Most textiles are burdened with misconceptions and their own wild imaginations. Any attempt at serious discussion of the subject would most likely be met with ridicule. People are embarrassed to discuss nudism. I don't know how to get past that.

I think the general public makes no distinction between swingers and nudists ... I think they think all nudists are swingers. It also doesn't help when swingers are afraid to call themselves exactly what they are but hide behind labels such as "lifestyle or lifestylers." hijacking that word gets under my skin only because so many nudist refuse to use the word to explain how it is they live. They don't want "lifestyle" associated with them in anyway. My wife and I are NOT swingers but we do live a nudist lifestyle. Many people live different lifestyles and most are not swingers. Making up new phrases to try and explain what you do,how you live, to disassociate yourself from the word "lifestyle" is not our way of approaching this issue.
The general public has one thing on their minds when it comes to nudity, being nude, hearing of people being nude at different places, such as the beach, a club or resort ... "there's sex going on there and they are having sex with everyone and anyone." With sites, such as this one, where you allow the mixing of topics for discussion, no moderation, no accountability ... in some areas, we are not helping with the perception of the distinction between nudists and swingers. I completely agree with Bill B's comment" Any attempt at serious discussion of the subject would most likely be met with ridicule. People are embarrassed to discuss nudism. I don't know how to get past that." Our close friends can't discuss nudity or nudism with us. They act like 10 yr old girls and get giddy and start making cracks about sex because they are embarrassed to discuss nudity. It's quite pathetic and sad.

Agree AndyDi, as always your thoughts are spot on. But genuine nudists need to continue to try as long as they are not constrained by concerns over their professional lives. Increasing general discussion, especially in the media will help but will take a very long time. Unfortunately, the media still depicts the sexual side most often.

In my opinion, swingers want people to know what they are and this allows them to recruit new contacts.
I spoke to a couple about this, saying if I was a swinger, I would want it kept secret. They then explained why they thought the opposite.

I tried swinging once, but never again: Fell out the tree and nearly broke my back.

They then explained why they thought the opposite. This is exactly why traditional nudists want swingers to stay within their own environment and stay out of the traditional nudist settings. As you stated ... they want people to know what they are so they can recruit newbies. In my opinion ... if someone in the traditional setting is curious about swinging .... they should go to a swingers club, resort or party and leave it out of the traditional nudist clubs and resorts.
The difference here is this; traditional nudists don't routinely visit swinger venues but swingers want to visit traditional venues to recruit newbies. They've tired of their old partners and want new flesh. I think it's crap, it BS and they need to either keep their lifestyle to themselves while visiting a traditional setting or stay out completely. We don't visit swinger clubs to try and recruit them to traditional nudism.
