How long does it take for textile marks to disappear?
Some people come for a nude photography session, but they are not nudists. This means they may have marks on their skin from elastic, tight seams or belts. I request models to arrive with all loose fitting clothing and preferably no underwear or brassiere. However my question is to find how other photographers get around the compression marks if moels arrive with them?
I've read (a long time ago, so my memory may not be quite right) that photographers would ask their models to undress at least 30 minutes before photography started so as to give the clothing compression marks time to go away. The models would wear a very loose robe during this period.
Whilst everybody is different, I have always worked on the basis that marks left on the skin by tight clothing, etc can take up to 2 hours to disappear and so I ask potential models to wear loose fitting clothing and not to wear anything tight or restrictive, including underwear, for that period of time. I always explain why I make this request and I have never had any problem with it.
A real model learns this early in their career. If you aren't sure about the model, it's okay to let them know not to wear clothing that will leave marks. It's all part of the job and you should make sure that everything is up front and there are no worries during the shoot.
