Chickens in the Spring
We are working on getting a old building made over to a chicken coop. Many of what wewill be using to do this, has been free. Anyone here ever done this kind of thing before. Anyone planning on doing this. All idea's will be helpful. Thinking with going with Red Star chickens. Anyone have /had them kind before? What other kind are good for laying as well as the heat of the Carolina's ?
Hello, we have a nice homestead here where we raise or grow most of the food we eat.
Chickens are a great way to get into homesteading as they have a lower cost of entry than larger types of livestock. In our experience Heritage breeds of chickens do best in all types of weather. There are tons of breeds to pick from but consider getting a few different types. This way when one breed might have slowed egg production because of weather another breed might not be struggling and laying strong.
