What about a Naked Olympics?

I heard that when they were proposing and designing the modern olympics in the late 19th century there were serious discussions over playing all sports nude! even in victorian times they were thinking about staying true to the original ancient greek games. i wish that argument had won out. i can't imagine it happening now, many cultures are so uptight about nudity. but i love the idea of putting everyone on the same level, breaking down all barriers between opponents and countries!

Much sport was nude indoors in the 19th century as it was modeled after greek ideals. Swimming too. I definitely agree with you and there are some leagues around the world. I've played nude volleyball with mixed gender and men only gay str8 bi doesn't matter just good fun. Certainly was amazing and liberating.

RE:What about a Naked Olympics?

The very first time I ever 'got naked in front of people' (other than the gym showers) was after coming home from Mardi Gras in 1993, and seeing all the CRAZY public nudity on Burbon Street during the festivities, I then decided to attend the 'Nude Olympics' being held at Pine Tree, near Annapolis, Maryland later that summer - it's one of the oldest ASA (now AANR) nudist clubs in the United States I believe. I also used to go to White Thorn Lodge - sort of 'north west ' of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - not far from the Ohio state line the week after Labor Day when they hold a HUGE volleyball tournament that drawls folks from all over the states and Canada.

As recently as the early 1980's swimming nude in male only locations was the norm. and doing other indoor athletic activities nude in male only facilities or those with separate areas for men and women was not uncommon.

It still is a practice here and there in various niches and in different cultures for different reasons. The first reason for it being rare is that mixed gender settings and equality have resulted in the quick exit of nude athletics because of the obvious and well known social mores and the pressure of wide swaths of society to have it abolished and I am not going to get into the merit or the injustice of that situation without this being a position for or against, rather I would just say that the best way to get an opportunity to enjoy nude athletics is to take it seriously and make it private and membership driven for men (or women if that's your thing as a woman) with clear guidelines as to what's going to happen and be expected of membership. Some folks just want nude athletics and nothing else and that should be something that is respected and respectable. If it's just a cover for something else rather than be less than candid about it be frank and upfront from the start (and I am not inviting condemnation here, if you don't approve then you're welcome to, and welcome to expect your space to be naturist in the fullest sense supported by membership here). I just wish people would make the effort to make the distinction and stick to it while respecting others and staying clear of each other's preferred nudist or naturist preferences.
