A Christmas Message

Joy, love, hope, happiness, goodwill on earth, and peace to all. These are the words that define Christmas, but alas, the season lasts such a short. I recently heard an old song titled Blowing in the Wind. The song was written by Bob Dylan over 60 years ago and the lyrics apply as much today as they did in 1963. The song poses many rhetorical questions such as how many roads must a man walk down, or how many challenges must he face before he can be accepted? And how many years can people exist before they are allowed to be free, free from discrimination and oppression? And how many cannonballs must fly and how many deaths are too many before we realize violence is not the answer? Perhaps the most poignant questions are how many times do we need to look up before we can see reality represented by the sky? Or how many times can we turn out heads and pretend we just cant see that reality? Or how many ears do we need before we can hear people cry? These questions serve as a powerful indictment of societal indifference and the need for empathy and understanding. The answers to these questions are blowing in the wind meaning they are all around us like the wind and within reach. This holiday season, let us not only open out eyes and ears, but also out minds and hearts so we can harness the wind and work to overcome our differences and spread love, joy, hope, happiness, peace and goodwill not only for one month of the year, but all year long.
