I use a few different gyms with very different norms. A couple university gyms have open showers. Some guys even shower in their swimsuits or underwear and others are nude from locker to shower to sauna. At my home gym I am one of a few guys nude from locker to shower. It's interesting that some guys are comfortable even chatting with me while one or the other is nude (including some gym staff),. Others send out a strong sense of discomfort at seeing somebody nude. I feel bad for them, and make a point to look away or otherwise ignore them, I guess in an effort to lessen their discomfort. But I have no desire to change my showering behavior, which I think is normal for a men's locker room.
When I showered at the gym, I would strip when I got to my locker, carry my towel to the shower, shower, dry off, carry my towel to a sink, put it on the edge of the sink. shave, comb my hair, put on deodorant, etc., walk back to my locker nude and the dress. A few others would do the same, but most would wrap the towel around their waist to and from the shower and shave with the towel around their waist or in underwear. I do remember one day when there were 7 men shaving at the sink and 4 of them were nude, so I was in the majority for a change.
I also enjoy being naked in the changing rooms, there are so many men hiding in the corners trying to cover up with towels and not exposing themselves when getting dressed, i just throw mt towel over my shoulder and wander off to get a shower or wash my hand at the sink, always being commando i do get some strange looks when pulling on my trousers with no underewear though
Lets reintroduce our fellow men to other men. Locker room nudity should at no point make another man uncomfortable. Im not talking about guys cruising but just being nude before or after a work out, swim or steam. I enjoy to drip dry and cool down shower and drip dry again. I also enjoy the blow dryer for my entire body. Being a hairy man means constant moisture in Florida. Id like to find a mens only club where there is not a dress code but also not a gay hook up site. There are book stores and bath houses for that.
Totally agree with you. Males created for being nude. Why not in Lockerrooms?
Could not agree more with your point of view on this. I find that guys comfortable with nudity become more open and disposed to chat when naked, even with a guy they have never met before. I'm used to the easy back-and-forth of nude conversation because I belong to a nudist club, but even at my gym I've seen this dynamic. Of course, I am speaking of men 50+!
Totally with you. Check out Chicago Sweatlodge for an awesome all male non-sexual sauna environment/experience.
I go to Chicago Sweatlodge and can recommend it as all male and non-sexual, but nudity is very limited mostly to the 50+ crowd, I asked men about it as I like to be naked in saunas and was told staying naked was perfectly fine. At the same time, the younger ones seem to be concerned that they'll send out the wrong signals being naked themselves. They're certainly on the lookout for anyone who would touch or pleasure themselves, I was informed.
There are a lot of foreign born men at Chicago Sweatlodge and my local gym. I find most grew up in environments where nudity is the norm or is accepted, and they have no issue with it themselves. At the same time, few are willing to go naked, perhpas because they're mindful of trying to be good Americans. In fact, one older American asked me when I was naked in my gym sauna how long I've been in this country. I told him I was born here and I don't think he believed me. I guess that makes me happy to be secret foreign born rad, but that's Midwestern nice for you.
