I continue to believe in the power of the message "He is risen" despite the shame and abuse I experienced as a child and youth in the church. Easter was always confusing to me. If the focus of faith is spirit, why is there a physical resurrection? And if we're discussing rotting maggot-infested dead flesh springing back to life anew, then why did my body split off from me in my faith from the teachings that the spirit is good, holy, while the body is bad, corrupted, etc? I believe that Jesus had a penis that got erect which he considered God's work as I can consider mine. He was fully human and sexual and so am I. The only polarization of being pious and assexual (other than for procreation) or being a sex-obsessed deviant is in the minds of those who wish to control us using shame and fear. I can be fully alive, fully spirit, and fully sexual and my cock and body can rise today without having to shed itself of maggots. There is no conflict between sex and spirit, only unity.
Here is a piece which honors this idea. It's not about needing to choose sexuality, but to be sexuality, God's spirit, and it's all good.
