This is how I view Bromance and it goes beyond nudity. Bromance to me is loving another man, being romantically involved with a boundary of no sex. Being able to hold a man in your arms and appreciate the connection, arousal permitted but not acting upon it. Feeling the void when those male friends are absent. I experienced a troop of str8 younger Spanish men while visiting Thailand, they held hands had intimate conversations, greeted each other with a kiss on the lips, not a peck, but a loving kiss. I wished our society was as accepting.
Bromance for me :
bro = best friend
Romance = deep connection with the person , trust and care , emotional level awareness without the dating aspect .
Bromance - like best friend energy turned up to max level deeper longer lasting friendship
Non sexual non dating but between 2 guys , any orientation
Joey and chandler in friend as an example . Bromance .
Nudity isn't essential but generally seen most of my bros nude and they've seen me nude also because the connection goes deeper than sexuality it's a comfort thing . Like a friendship is a campfire but a bromance is a wood burning stove in a cabin on a winter night with hot chocolate and a movie .
My best friend-bro and I began at 17 years old. We were mostly together all the time. Signed up for the navy together. Got stationed together. Later we traveled together. Often sharing a single hotel room. Deep conversations about anything and everything. Often living together so shared bathroom. In the navy we showered at the same time. At home it was usual to go out in the evenings then return home and skinny dip in the pool or hot tub. To us it wasnt about sex or nudity. Just a deep connection to each other. Guys being guys we talked about sex as that was on our minds 24/7. Nudity wasnt even a concern. Neither of us were shy with the other one. We were just bros.
It's weird that it has a name now. It used to be common place. Not too long ago, in the 1970s and 80s, there was a "guys world". Nudity was a part of it, because that meant women were excluded and this allowed for male closeness. No women meant it was non sexual. Guys naked together was always non sexual, since no one was gay. (Of course some guys were gay, but they got a steady gal and took her to the prom, life in the closet was just a fact of life back then.)
Gym showers were open, walking from the shower to your locker with your towel around your neck and talking with guys while you dry off. Were common place things. You can't be close to guys if you are shy around them. Pulling up your underwear under your towel eliminates any Bromance.
I remember sharing beds with guys on a student tour of Europe. We slept in bikini briefs and thought nothing of it. A close friend in high school had a pool and hot tub. We always skinny dipped when his mom spent the night at her boyfriend's place.
One winter night we were in the tub and the cool breeze and steam from the tub were amazing. After we got water logged we went indoors and lit a fire in the fire place. Smoked cigarettes and drank beer into the early morn. Went to bed in his single bed and woke up around noon, still nude. Now a days, this would be the plot for a gay porno. Back then it was just guys being close friends.
We were high school seniors and spent the time talking about our dreams and plans for our futures. Moving away from home, college and career. Military maybe? Life was full of possibilities and we were 18 and about to graduate and start the adventure of life.
We were teen guys, so erections happened some of the time. Teen guys get hard when fully dressed, so nude erections were just as common. Mostly when we were in the hot tub, but sometimes morning wood too.
The hot water and bubbles from the jets were exhilerating, but we did not want to wear suits, because they filled up with air and felt uncomfortable. We made no big deal if it. We just continued whatever we were doing and ignored it. No effort made to cover it up. Same with gym showers. It happened sometimes, but no one made fun of one guy's boner, since it could be you next week. No one tried to cover up in shame either, because no one linked sex to erections, since we were all guys.
I've shared hotel rooms with guys before. We would share the bathroom. Just because one guy is showering, does not mean you lock the door. The other guy can shave and brush his teeth. Same with drying off and dressing. You move out to the room.
We were there for a conference and there was a tight schedule. If one of us hogged the bathroom, the other guy had to miss breakfast of was late to the conference. Or he had to be grubby and unshaven. It was work, so you don't do that to a co worker. A true bro knows that. Modesty is rude if you think you have the right to monopolize the bathroom and cheat the other guy out of enough time to get ready for the day.
