Why A-Bay will be a no-go for nude bathers
New article from Sunshine Coast Daily May 5th
ATTEMPTS to make Noosa's unofficial nude beach, Alexandria Bay, legal have been dealt a bitter blow.Queensland Police Minister Bill Byrne has rejected a request for Queensland to legalise clothing optional beaches.Australian Sex Party representative Robin Bristow, who lives in Noosa, slammed Mr Byrne's announcement."Our state is 40 years behind the rest of Australia in legalising nude beaches," Mr Bristow said."We are the last state in Australia to make this simple change to legislation."How can we call ourselves the Smart State if our politicians can't even move into the 21st Century?"Mr Byrne rejected two attempts - a paper petition with 527 signatures and an online petition bearing 946 names - to create a "clothing optional beach" in Queensland. He said the state's Public Safety Business Agency advised Queensland's wilful exposure laws were designed to protect citizens and keep them safe."As such, I can advise that the Queensland Government has no plans to change the current legislation dealing with wilful exposure," Mr Byrne said."Therefore, the designation of a clothing optional beach is not supported at this time."Mr Bristow said Mr Byrne's argument that it was designed for the "protection and safety of Queenslanders" was pathetic."What are the people in Queensland being protected from? It is their choice to be on a nude beach and making such a claim is complete rubbish when we see that the rest of Australia has the freedom to visit the many clothing optional beaches up and down the coast."Queensland is making criminals out of decent folk who are making adult decisions about their lifestyle, decisions that do not affect anyone else."We are tired of being seen as the backward state and we need the Queensland government to show that we have moved on from the Joe Bjelke-Petersen era."Mr Bristow claimed Noosa councillors, in a majority show of hands, had expressed their desire to see Alexandria Bay in Noosa National Park be designated as a legal nude beach and Townsville Council has also recently commissioned their staff to start public consultations in anticipation of changes being made to the law."This change to the law will cost the Queensland government absolutely nothing and will boost tourism, jobs and the economy. The people of Queensland are waiting for their government to grow up and to start treating them like adults."
As a Queenslander who chooses not to live in Queensland, the State still lives in the dark ages. It is quite pathetic the arguments being put forward. Thedecision makerswould fail the clear thinking test that all other Aussie children understand.
Wishing for things to go ahead in favor of nudism up there.
Meanwhile we cannot sit idle, we have to be determent to get things going for politically intellectually deprived Queensland.
The politicians just care for their own pocket and do nothing for society's interests and well being. Shame to say!!!
One hour and a decade behind the times...or in this case, about 50 years. I'm really sad to hear this, but not in the least surprised. Maybe a petition on Change.org? You need a petition with thousands, not hundreds, of signatures. Anyway, if there's anything those of us who live in States not still in the Dark Ages...or worse - under the Puritanical rule of Cranmer's Commonwealth (perhaps closer to Queensland) can do, I'm sure some of us would be willing to help.
Or you could move to a State that's actually living in the 21st Century!
Or you could move to a State that's actually living in the 21st Century!
You probably said this jokingly but my wife & I have seriously started to consider it. We moved here in 2000 from the South Africa via the UK and this together with the recent headline"Pot heads into heroin, ecstasy and cocaine territory" has use seriously considering moving. marijaunahttps://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/queensland-government/pot-heads-into-heroin-ecstasy-and-cocaine-territory/news-story/0b9c7c264875fc5b7b5b20f69ed724c8
Yes QLD is still locked in to the 50s and in the Summer is one hour behind the smarter states with daylight saving. Many Millions are made from nudism in Europe each year $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ which QLD is missing out plus invading our freedom to be naked.Col
I agree with rdrr43. Both the health and economic cases needs to be pushed to the politicians and bureaucrats. Nude travel is now huge. It is a multi million $ business in Europe and the USA plus the cruise industry.Prudes, bigots, idiots and others of their ilk, (read politicians,do gooders, some religious people), are living in a very dark and blinkered world. See hate and you will find it. See lewdness and you will see it advertised daily in our papers and TV.Yet, wholesome nudism is still considered obscene. No one, churches, politicians etc have ever been able to prove their case. I personally knowa Catholic priest, a Lutheran pastor and a Pentecostal minister who are nudists and they so correctly say, their brethren are WRONG.Queensland, like so many other places are afraid to actually ask their constituents for their opinion, or seek the financial impact if they were to provide a few kilometres of beaches (miles) for nude recreation. Good heavens, the total length of Queensland's mainland coastline is 6,973km (4,333mi) with another 6,374km (3,961mi) of island coastline! We have dog beaches, are humans second class citizens? Plus dogs run nude. Has no one noticed?
