RE: Heat wave hits the UK!

A13b34: Looks like you're talking heat-index numbers, not true temperature. I couldn't believe 115 in Minnesota and find weather sites showing only lower 90Fs to 98F max in Minneapolis. Heat index for the next couple days of 108 to, possibly, 115. Granted, that's pretty high for the US North but pretty normal for July/August in the US South.

RE: Heat wave hits the UK!

But will they have any operating steam engines for this weekend if you are volunteering as they are out of service for one reason or other as I presume you drive on the NYMR.We really are having some rotten luck at the moment.
One loco has gone to Shilden for a NELPG 50th do.
One is in traffic, One is on wash-out,
Two are just about to enter traffic after a long time stopped.
One is about to enter traffic after a major overhaul,
Unfortunately, this has meant a lot of diesel hauled trains, and even that hasn't been plain sailing, as one of those also broke yesterday.
By Saturday we may have more steam loco's available, but by then the heat may cause problems due to higher fire risk.
We can never win
