Am I a nudust?

Hey folks,

I'm so glad I found your site and it seems like there are a lot of very cool people here. I've never been in any kind of social nude situation, but have always been very interested, but scared. I've been doing a lot of thinking and reading lately about naturism and I still struggle to come up with an answer to what seems like my most fundamental question of all: am I a nudist? I suppose that I ultimately have to answer that for myself, but I'm hoping that some of you fine folks can help me figure out if social nudism is really for me or if my interest in nakedness is better kept behind closed doors.

Ever since I was a kid, I've had a fascination with being naked. I can remember as young as age 7 or 8 going to bed and as soon as my mom left the room after tucking me in, I'd strip off my PJs and sleep nude. I was raised by a single mother and spent a lot of time home alone. Whenever I felt safe enough, that I wasn't going to get walked in on, I'd get naked. These habits have stuck with me into adulthood.

Sadly, something that has always accompanied my nakedness has been my shyness. I was a tall, skinny kid and I took a lot of heat about it growing up. As a result, I came to be very self-conscious and took every step possible to avoid exposing any part of myself for fear of mocking. I never went skinny-dipping with friends in high school or college even though I wanted to badly every time the chance came up. It even took a couple of years before I could completely comfortably walk around nude in front of my wife despite the fact that she does it all the time. Nowadays, I'm usually just worried that one of my neighbors might catch a glimpse through some partially-open window treatment. But that's enough to keep me from being nude even in my own home as much as I'd like.

It seems simple on the surface. If I like to be nude but am too shy to be so around others, then I should just do it at home. I've had a few conversations with my wife about having "naked days" at home to which she readily agreed and we've had a couple of nice evenings. But for some reason, I can't get out of my mind the idea of taking a walk outside or swimming in the ocean or participating in some kind of outdoor activity nude. I don't ever even go to the beach normally despite living within a half-hour from it. I never go hiking or anything like that. I just don't find them all that much fun. But it sounds fun to do them naked. It sounds fun to do just about anything naked. Is that a sign that my motives are wrong that the nudity itself is the primary motivator for me to try this?

I'm so close to just going down to the nude beach near me and giving it a shot. I think I just need a little encouragement.

Very few that have tried social nudity have had a bad experience. I have likened it to a plunge into a cool pool. a bit of a shock at first but once in, it feels great. You are very lucky to have a nude beach, nearby. I wish that I so lucky.

I think that once you screw up your courage and try it you will be surprised at how quickly it begins to feel normal andyouwillwonderwhy you were so hesitant. I know the first step will not be easy after a lifetime ofhavingbody image insecurities but it is definitely worth the effort.

RE: Am I a nudust?

Take a deep breath. Now, set a date with your wife to go to the nude beach! Within moments of being there you will wonder why it took you so long. And you'll quickly realize nobody is "looking" at you or "judging" you as they are all naked too and come inall different shapes and sizes. And when you lie on the beach and feel the sun warming every part of your body and discover the joys of swimming nude and not having to deal with a wet, clammy bathing suit, you may say to yourself what have I been waiting for? And then you might just decide to try free-hiking. Nothing like walking through the woods unencumbered by clothing.

The only way you will truly know if you are a nudist is to just give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you try it and don't like it at least you'll know. If you try it and like it a whole new world will have opened up for you.

Got for it!

p.s. Make sure you use SUNSCREEN!

Excellent response, as always!

I think that once you realise that all true naturists don't see a body no matter what size/colour or blemishes there are, a naturist is a person not an object to stare at and make comments, pluck up the courage and take the plunge, once you do and get over that complex you will wish you had done it ealier, Go with the wife to beach/private area or where ever you can and take of those clothes and enjoy.
I have been going clothes free for so long now I don't feel there is anything wrong in it and I don't care if people look and don't see the body they would wish it to be I am comfortable with my own body and seeing others is just in my mind as another like minde naturist.
GO FOR IT.

Tooshy: My advice would be may be if possible to make it a clothes optional venue that you go to first time. That way you can take your time. I have been told; but not tried it myself that if you are naked when others are clothed you feel uncomfortable and the opposite is also true. At least that is what one of my friends told me after she had come back from Japan. While there she had gone for a sauna and (being a typical brit put on her one-piece). Only to walk out into the sauna area to find everyone else bare ass. She carried on as usual, but bailed out after a few minutes feeling very uncomfortable; returned to the locker room dumped her kit and then she felt much better.
Skorpio: There is a very good reason for the hermit crab's shyness though - they are soft skinned and vunerable to predators. Where as we have no predators in our normal lifes although if you go into the jungle that may be different.

Right on Jen with a good use of the english language.
Ya wife enjoys being naked so got to the beach with her and damn it, enjoy. Once the first time is over ya won't wanna put cloth on again. As for the nieghbors seeing ya, well we all have the same parts, just different size and shapes. Ya may find they enjoy naked times too. The next neighbor party may relax all ur fears.

I'm going for it

Thanks for all the encouragement folks! I'm definitely going to go for it in the next couple of weeks. My wife is apprehensive about going to the nude beach near us (San Onofre) because of a concern for there being too many single men and gawkers there. If she decides she wants to try, we might go to a resort instead. Otherwise, I'll hit the beach alone. I'm feeling better and more confident about it every day and am excited to go give it a shot. I have a feeling that I will be an instant convert!

Has anyone been to San Onofre recently? I know they've had some issues with the police down there, but I'm not sure if that's still going on.
