Algarve
My friends and I went to stay in the far western Algarve late in October. Part of our stay was to help out friends Carol and Joe who's nudist guesthouse we've stayed at many times. The weather was unusually disappointing that week too. But it didn't stop us visiting the lovely nude beaches nearby. To our disappointment we found that one of our favourites,Furnas beach, had lost a lot of sand over the last year. Don't get me wrong, it was still covered in lovely golden sand below the striking cliffs. But that sand was over 1m lower, opening up caves and making it more challenging to get along the foreshore to adjacent beaches. There are lots of lovely sandy beaches there set in coves below the sheltering cliffs. And we found two new ones, on the west coast just north of Sagres (Between Castelejo and Amado beaches to be precise). They are accessed down tracks off the main north-south road along the west coast, just north of Villa do Bispo. A sat-nav is needed to find them but the journey is well worth it for the intrepid nude beach goer. The soputhern one is Praia da Barriga and the other is Praia da Marrincao. Both are big sandy beaches set in coves below coal-black cliffs with fascinating geological folds. I'll be uploading the photos to my profile soon.
