Smoking around others ...
Question for those members of this group.
When smoking a cigar or pipe, do you smoke near others? Do you heed the requests of non smokers to take your smoking elsewhere? Do you ask permission before you light up?
After some have answered, I'll post my reply.
Thanks!
I try to be sensitive to others sensitivities. Given that my cigar enjoyment is but once a week or two, I do not run into too much grief. Mostly at home puffing on my own or sometimes with a friend or two...but always out on the lanai, by the pool. Smoking inside is off limits. I respect that. I would not light up elsewhere in public unless invited to or if I am at one or our local cigar bars.
Once at the beach, I placed myself well out of the way of others to have a stogie. A lady walked over from about 80 yards away to complain of the smoke. I believe that she was overly sensitive. I guess if I was able to detect her flatulence from that distance, she could detect my La Aroma de Cuba. I finished it and assured her that was it. We all lived happily ever after.
Never will I smoke in my vehicles or in the house.
When in a public venue, IE: The Nudist Resort I ask those around me if I can smoke a cigar. For the most part no one cares. Once in a while if Management is near by those around remind me of the smoking outside the swimming pool area rule. They just want to keep me out of trouble really which I appreciate very much :) Hawk
Like you two, I do not smoke in the house. I've always wanted my own room/man cave, with big leather chairs, dark wood furniture, naked women pictures/art of women smoking cigars, on the walls and good ventilation so I could smoke in that room and watch some TV or hang out with my buds and have a whiskey with our cigars. Never happened, probably never will! :D
But I have smoked my cigars in my fire department sedan when I was in a staff position but never on the fire engine. I started smoking in my fire dept. vehicle to relax me while driving the 2.5-3 hours home each evening. I stopped smoking in the sedan because a female co-worker and I were in the vehicle and she said "it stunk!" LOL So I stopped smoking in the sedan and the smell finally dissipated.
I, too, am a considerate cigar/pipe smoker. I've had many men and women come up to me while smoking my pipe to ask what "flavor" of tobacco I was smoking. They actually enjoyed smelling it. But I've always, always figured out what direction the wind was blowing and would venture down wind to ask if they mind if I smoke my cigar or pipe.
I had to laugh and then got a little pissed once while on a cruise ship. I passed a bar/smoking lounge and asked my wife if she wanted to join me for a nightcap while I smoked a cigar. She agreed and we went in, ordered a couple of drinks and I lit up my stogie. Can you believe that some cigarette smoker complained about my cigar and I was asked to take my cigar out on the main deck to smoke!??? I was told that it was a cigarette only smoking lounge! LOL ... I couldn't believe it! I guess I should have asked first! :D
