RE:Physical Exams

Do most men feel awkward going into a Dr. office for a complete physical exam or no?It doesn't bother me one way or the other if I am told to get undressed for the exam or I just do it because I think I know all that's gonna happen regardless if it's a male Dr. or female.I grewup in a home where clothes weren't worn in the house day or night so being nude in front of a Dr. for me or in front of anyone else isn't a big deal at all and in fact I am comfortable moreso nude then dressed around others any day or night.Does anyone feel awkward when a Dr. does a prostate exam or touches their ball sack in the exam?

RE:Physical Exams

I have had both male and female residents for my primary care. All but the current female were foreign born. I did not get a prostate or testicular exam from either female, but did get both from the males in their last year. I was not uncomfortable with those exams, but am actually more uncomfortable wearing the gown that I am given. It seems to be a waste since it is open in the back and if left for the doctor to do a proper exam, it falls off my shoulders.

RE:Physical Exams

Physical exams in the U.S. are a joke. Unless you have a specific complaint or question the whole concept is: "If you walk into the office, you are healthy enough to walk out!" It's a good thing our ears and mouth aren't covered because at least they give the doctor a reason to do some hands-on evaluation. I think most primary physicians are content to send you to a specialist rather than deal with any specific problems you my have. However, even my dermatologist doesn't do a full nude body exam. Another irritant is that the MDs seem to be so busy that a routing physical is delegated to a PA or nurse practitioner.Just shows that we have to be knowledgeable and assertive in our own health care. Although doctors thoroughly dislike patients reading about medical issues on the internet they force us to be our own advocates.

Just the same here in the UK. It's time doctors did their job properly as they were trained to do.

RE:Physical Exams

We moved last year to Florida and finally got a doctor this year. When I went to get my physical for our insurance, I made a note to make sure I wore boxers. I've gotten to the point where I go commando just about all the time now. I had to have some xrays done on my hip, so I was glad to have the boxers on. It wouldn't have bothered me to be naked for the xray tech, but I didn't want to make her uncomfortable.

I've had xrays and MRI's done on my feet, knees, back, shoulders and neck. Each time, I showed up wearing what I normally wear; shorts, t shirt, flip flops ... that's it!

I never had an issue with the male techs but one time! He acted so immaturely that I demanded another tech. They exchanged him with a young female tech. She asked me what the problem was and when I told her that the male tech was having issues because I don't wear underwear and he was going to be exposed to my nakedness and he had a meltdown. She rolled her eyes and said, "I'll take care of you and be your tech through the process."

So ... in that particular situation, my experience was opposite. My nakedness made the male tech uncomfortable and the female tech was mature and able to deal with it. In other situations, I've had medical assistants have issues with simple nudity and luckily, the doctors have told them to leave the room or gave them a task that took them out of the room.

RE:Physical Exams

I used to go to a female physician. She admitted to being uneasy doing certain procedures. Prostate exam being one. She would always send me to a urologist or other specialist in whatever field she wouldn't handle. I switched to another doctor. Male. Great doctor but in three years he has only once checked my prostate and that was for a problem with prostatitus. I have never nor my wife who goes too ever been asked to disrobe. We go to him twice a year. Today I go to my dermatologist. I know I will be asked to remove all clothing for my exam. A gown is always offered though. His nurse and I have had some good conversations about our nudists life. She's always is comfortable as am I. The doc is very profesional and just comes in and does what's needed and leaves.

I prefer a female Doctor, but since I am going to the VA exclusively, I do not have the choice of gender.

I live in NYC, and I have had some interesting exams.

My current doctor starts the exam in my underwear and halfway through I am naked for the remainder of the exam.

RE:Physical Exams

Primary physician never has me take off anything below the waist since I now go to a urologist for henia, digital rectal and testicular exam.
Dermatologist has me strip to my underwear. I kept one pair for that purpose when I stopped wearing underwear, but got rid of it shortly after my last full body exam. Now I am having second thoughts about going without,
