URGENT IMMINENT CLOSURE OF TYAGARAH BEACH. October 19, 2017
Byron Shire Cr Paul Spooner (Country Labor) has announced his intention to PERMANENTLY REVOKE the designation of Tyagarah as a clothing-optional beach on the back of some complaints about inappropriate sexual behaviour.
The motions will go before councils next meeting on OCTOBER 19 there is no time to lose!
Tyagarah is the ONLY legal nude beach for 3,000 kilometres.
Four years ago, Cr Spooner put his name to a motion committing council to FIND ALTERNATIVE SITES for a clothing optional beach in a less isolated area BUT NOTHING WAS EVER DONE!
Council has also NEVER erected any SIGNAGE highlighting penalties for sex offences or even indicating the start and end of the beach.
Most people DONT EVEN KNOW where the legal nude beach begins and ends!
Now, with virtually NO NOTICE, Cr Spooner wants to close the beach and make it a POLICE MATTER.
This means naturists will become LAW BREAKERS by Tyagarah it or any other beach in Byron Shire.
If you are caught, expect to be told to SHOW PHOTO ID, GET DRESSED AND GO HOME (as now happens elsewhere in Byron).
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Attend the Nude Olympics at the Belongil end of the beach tomorrow, October 7, from 10am (entrance adjacent to Elements Resort). A show of numbers is vitally important.
Sign the petition to keep the beach open that will be circulating.
Volunteer, if you have time, to collect signatures and leaflet vehicles at Grays Lane car park.
Attend the council meeting on October 19.
Keep checking this page for further updates (online petition to follow on Monday 9th, but hard-copy signatures are vitally necessary).

There is also a petition on change.org. Please sign it.

What happened up there? Its 30+ years since I was at Byron but we went out to Kings Beach, was not sure about this beach back then. Was the Cuouncil motion successful? Did you lobby other Councillors to vote against the motion?

At Whites beach / Point Impossible near Torquay (Victoria) a local Councillor tried a similar thing years ago. While there had been inappropriate sexual behaviour in the dunes, the Councillor was shown to have a conflict of interest, he was trying to develop land close by. He was shown to be a developer and could not take the motion further and some ( not all) the complaints were also shown to be fake as I recall.

I was planning on coming back there to visit as A-Bay at Noosa does not seem to be legal yet and I can do without the potential hassles by Police, that would be enough to deter my wife and I'm trying to encourage her.

SBN.
