A question for the nudists who have been around
I'm wondering if anyone has noticed that with the internet becoming more and more prevalent that there are more and more nudist. With so much information at the tips of our fingers I feel that it has had to have had some impact. Along with it attracting a new crowd I feel it's also attracting a more sexual person. Thoughts?
I agree with Rabbit. Seems like the pervs are out in force now, posing as nudists.
Before internet, we had nudist magazines. Although there is certainly a percentage of subscribers to those magazines that did so only for the perv satisfaction (not because they were true nudists), the rest of us never knew about it, and frankly did not know the pervs existed. The only time you ever saw a perv is once in a while at a nudist resort, a perv would show up and obviously be there for the wrong reasons. They stand out in the crowd, if you know what I mean. And, they were quickly forced to leave.
Now, with the internet, people who are pervs have invaded the nudist websites and forums (especially this one for some reason) looking for soft-core porn or whatever they get out of this. Those of us who grew up as nudists are absolutely SICK and TIRED of the constant posts about their erections, shaving, sex, etc. Absolutely FED UP with it! Yet, thanks to the internet, it has become painfully obvious that the pervs far outnumber the true nudists. So, we have to navigate the waters to find others who are here for the right reasons. The vast majority on this site are clearly just pervs.
I found this site after embracing social nudism and wanting to learn more about it and to find places closer to home to be nude.
It does seem that most of the people on here are looking at pictures or for hookups and not the vast amount of information and experience this site has to offer. I dont think that the internet has made social nudity any more acceptable in the US.
Porn has been on the internet since its inception. There may have been some nudist message boards and chat rooms back then but probably not sites like this with pictures and forums. I know I have cheated with people in other countries that would talk about being nude but I didnt think of them as nudist, I just thought that it was how they did things in their country.
I agree the internet is a great place to find place and people that share the same interest.
I also agree that porn is not necessarily a bad thing but there are sites out there that are ment for it like youporn where you can watch, post and comment users videos. I would that the people looking for that sort of thing to go there and allow sites like this one to be about living and being nude in a non sexual way.
I also agree with RabbitnBunny ... we don't see a marked increase in the numbers of people at nude beaches, resorts or clubs. Many of those that have visited or are visiting for the first time are not there because of the internet but the vast majority are visiting because they were introduced by friends who are real nudists.
The internet has produced a slew of computer "nudists" but they are far from what a nudist truly is. Many of these computer nudists are pervs, fakes and exhibitionists. Many dabble in other alternative lifestyles where nudity may be present and they try and lump or hide those lifestyles within the nudist lifestyle. Others find these sites to post their own naked pictures that don't depict true nudism and most times, shine a negative light on real nudism.
The internet has not increased the numbers of nudists, in our opinion. In fact, we'd say that it's probably turned some really great people away from nudism. Take a look at the groups and discussions that happen here and on other nudist sites. It's not all positive, as it should be.
Yes I do agreed that the pervs are coming out in Legions, but it has helped those of us that live in small towns that don't have a place to go to be nude other than our homes so we don't get to meet nudist and some of us work every hard and dot take time of so going to the resorts or club are not possible.
So it has had some positive impact it's just seems there is more negative one's
I think that this discussion can be split between two major groups; 1) active nudists and those genuinely interested in nudism and 2) the fakes and pervs.
We've both been actively involved in social nudism for + 40 years, increasingly so as the years pass. We live on the coast with nearby nudist beaches which have become the focal centre of our lives as nudists since we've lived here, making friends there and building up a circle of local nudists who visit each others homes for nude socialising. Previously we lived in a big city where we found it much harder to meet other nudists and based our nudist life around club and spa visits, with some out of town trips to nude beaches over summer weekends. It was harder to build up a circle of local nudist friends than it is now. The internet started to become increasingly useful for information about nudist events and places, but nothing like it is today. Many of the people I recall messaging with in those days were very into promoting nudism, possibly with some involvement with a club. We still visit nudist clubs but much less frequently because we have the beaches nearby. Most of our holidays are either to nudist resorts or places where nudism will feature heavily.
I've been involved with online nudism since the days of the early bulletin boards and chat rooms, when it was all text based and the internet was very slow, uploading graphics on dial-up might take multiple attempts and take hours. What I recall was some very earnest nudist discussion sites and rudimentary chats with more or less random people, it depended very much on whether the internet was working in certain parts of the world. It did seem to be real nudists that I met online then. We still relied a lot on things like nudist books and magazines and word of mouth for finding out about places to visit to be nude at. I recall a couple of books especially being very helpful, one was about nude UK places and clubs, the other was similar but covered Europe
As the internet has sped up and graphics became easier to use there were more nudist sites appearing, though quite often they were confusing nudism with something sexual. Porn was an early adapter of the internet, a lot of those looking for porn seemed to start landing on the nudist websites and some 'nudist' sites deliberately confuse nudism and porn to sell their products. At the same time it was easier for nudists who had no idea how to do things like use the command line to use the net to meet others and discuss nudism, as in other fields.
We've visited places where nudism is practiced in public like beaches for all of our time as nudists. There always seemed to be at least one perv with binoculars somewhere nearby, more have appeared as the information about nudism has reached more people over time, they find us easier. At the same time new nudists can discover nudist places easier, we met some this week at a local beach, they seemed to be very well informed, so there are definitely positive outcomes from nudist websites being easily found online, so obviously it helps that nudists discuss where we go on sites like this.
Overall from our experiences we feel that there has been a slow decline in the numbers of nudists we see at beaches here in the UK. There has been an increase in the number of textile passers by, not hugely significant, but there do seem to be more 'passers by' who've treated nudists as a tourist attraction. But many European places we know quite well seem to still attract a lot of nudists and the vast majority of their visitors are nude. At the same time we're aware of a number of nudist clubs closing down. It seems that nudists might want to be less organised, visiting the nudist club every weekend. There has been an increase in nudist events, held over a weekend or up to a week like Nudefest, Nudestock, or naked bike rides. We've found local nude hiking groups, there seem to be more nude swims and similar activities.

Additionally, alongside similar comments already made in this thread, I feel that it is becoming harder to navigate nudist websites and actually find true nudists. Some 'nudist' sites seem to lack any genuine nudists, of course the word 'nudist' can mean different things to different people, but that is another thread topic. Other nudist sites have differing proportions of real, would be and fake nudists. There always seems to be a sense of lurkers in the background, reading this and other threads, looking for people that might interest them and then looking to see if they share nude photos. Its sad, but without shutting ourselves behind physical walls in our real nudist lives, or behind a paywall on nudist sites, nudists will be sought out by those who want to see naked people, but not join in with our way of life. The internet has enabled nudists to find each other more easily, but there seem to be far more textiles finding us as well.
Many nudists accept it as fact of life that where we get naked socially there will be those there principally to see nude people. I think that nudists are an endlessly fascinating group of people, including visually, the wide range of shapes and sizes that humans come in is much more interesting and beautiful than when hidden away by clothing. We've both seen many thousands of nudists in real life, and they've seen us nude, this is a very normal event when you socialise as a nudist whenever possible. Nudism to us isn't so much about seeing each other naked, as nudism encompasses so much more. Nudists can be the most open, honest and upfront people we meet, hiding nothing physically from each other so often leads to nudists being much more open mentally too. We both really like meeting new people when we're all nude, we start to get to know each other without clothing sending out confusing signals, naked we're all our natural selves, nothing more or less.
There are some great people discussing their nudist experiences and associated thoughts online, including on TN. But, there are so many repeat questions which soon become boring. I'm not sure if the questioner has got so excited at finding a site where there are actual real live nudists and not bothered to read any earlier posts, threads and blogs, or just that they thought that nobody else has ever asked nudists that type of question, or something else. I'm not asking that newcomers read everything on a site before getting involved, newcomers input is as welcome as long time nudists, a bit of knowledge about what might be interesting to a cross-section of people here wouldn't be amiss. This threads topic is obviously interesting, the range of responses show that to be the case. Every nudist has started living naked at some point, including since birth
Having grown up during the 70's. I watched the pervs coming out of the closet movement really getting going in the early 80's and growing ever since. Back in the 60's hardly anyone thought about it, nude boys and men associating had no sexual context at all yet. It was a no big deal thing, along with the remnants of required nude pool swimming hanging on. So there has been a drastic increase in perv activity since then. But I suspect little increase in non perverted nude living, the internet just allows information and ideas to be freely shared instantly all over the world. Easy communication and information propagation results in greater awareness of it. But the perv increase has put a check on the growth of real naturism. Just by making nudity seem more about lust and sex than ever. And making the younger generation scared to be seen naked even by their own sex. And the prevalence of perv activity on nudist sites is a great detriment to new interest. (It takes hyper moderation to keep a site clean of the pervs, the few christian naturist discussion groups on the web seem to be fairly clean with constant active moderation ) I put up with a little, if there's enough innocent activity to hang around for. I have great interest in innocent living as God intended, naturist gardening lifestyle, living, growing good produce, and eating as Eden style as possible. Don't want gay friends because I feel like they likely look for the wrong kind of thing from me. (I hate that the word gay was taken over, it used to mean happy, still does, but ya don't dare use it that way any more) I know how it works in the mind, those involved in the perv mentality think nudity is all about lust and sex and that's their pleasure source. But it's all about the thrill of the moment ignoring long term good. I know because I drifted into it mentally for awhile before realizing it was so bad and pulled back out. A perverted sexual lifestyle is not healthy long term either physically or mentally, as well as biblically forbidden. (autopsies have indicated brain damage associated with it) And I want the best I can get in health in all areas of life. The Bible predicts that sin would increase drastically toward the end of the world, and the love of many would wax cold. It's happening. Most of what passes for love is not real love. Jesus Christ demonstrated real love.
