At TN it has two primary functions:1. Lacking a "sticky thread" function, it keeps topics of interest at or near the top of the threadlists for each subforum;2. It serves to push spam threads off the "Recent Forum Activity" section of the TN home page.
That works until fifty-eleven people come onto the site and read the spam, and every one of them posts a reply, "How do we get this spam off the front page??"
