Nude open water swim
In this country (USA), there are nude golfing events, numerous nude 5k runs, nude bowling and nude volleyball tournaments, and even a nude bike ride. I am sure these are all fun events, but none of them makes anywhere near as much sense as a nude open water swim. I have done a little research and there is one nude open water swim event in Sydney Australia. It is not a race, just a course marked by buoys (short and long 300 and 900 meters). They get over 1500 participants. I live in South Florida and the surf temperature is about 10 degrees warmer than in Sydney.
If you look at the nude 5ks conducted throughout the land, and the nude ocean swim which as far as I know exists only in Sydney Australia, the sponsors keep doing these events year after year. If it was not working, they would stop. Ok, so why no nude open water swimming events in the U.S.? Find a nude beach and do an early morning nude swim event. Drop a few buoys and mark out a course. There are logistics to be sure (registration, collecting money, insurance). You might need a few extra lifeguards stationed throughout the course. If you live in a town that has a nude beach, you will find plenty of qualified lifeguards looking for a few extra hours. When I see how heaven and earth are moved to do something as simple as a 5k run in the textile world (barricades, cops everywhere diverting traffic, crowd handling, etc.), putting on a short swim event at a nude beach seems comparatively easy. I suggested the idea to the local association that runs the nearby nude beach and it received a cool reception. If there is one event that should be nude, it is an open water swimming race. Would any of you be interested in participating in such an event if it were properly staged?
when I was a kid, back in the early 60s, my parents had a boat and we would often go to Catalina Island which is about 26 miles from the mainland. We were at the Isthmus when a swimmer swam by our boat, and I could see that he was naked. When he exited the water he was greeted by a couple of people who had a robe, some shorts, and towel for him. No one believed me! LOL
I had a surgery in 2019 that made swimming out of the question. This year when I was finally able to get back in the water, it felt great! My best highlight from the summer was a couple nude open water swims at Nipple Point near Salmon Arm BC. Awesome lake and a fine beach... for Canada. I am planning to go back again next summer.
