The nudist perspective

That's a healthy perspective. When people are not accustomed to see nude people it seems strange to them when they do, it either goes the way of porn in their minds, or it goes the way of ugly if they aren't perfectly formed as model status. And sometimes it goes the way of porn and the person gets angry because they don't want it to, but the anger gets taken out on the nudity (trying to suppress it) rather than their own perception of it. But it shouldn't be that way. It's like a messenger bringing bad news and we get angry at the messenger as if he was at fault. We should recognize the issues and defeat them, be honest that we aren't generally perfect in comeliness, that deformity injuries and age happens. But that should not affect the way we see us and others. We oughta be seeing nude bodies with no more attention than we do clothed bodies. How much do we pay attention to people clothed normally? We should pay the same attention to everyone the same way if they were all nude.

I wanted to kick out some ideas I had on my perspective as a nudist. First one I thought of is:When I view pics of people that are naked (not porn) or seeing people nude in real life. When I see that, to me it is totally and perfectly normal and beautiful. I'm pretty sure many non-nudists would see that and think it is abnormal or dirty etc. I am proud of my perspective in this area.Thoughts?Jeff

My views are similar. I visit many tumblr pages and blogs with nudes and find photos that depict the wholesome nudist lifestyle. Many of these tumblr and blog sites also have soft porn and hardcore porn pics and videos. Honestly, I scroll past those to find pictures that would work well in my group galleries. I'm fortunate to have a willing partner in nudism and a very healthy sex life that porn doesn't do much for me anymore, as it did when I was in my 20's! Besides; some of those positions these porn people get into would throw my back out and my wife doesn't bend like that anymore! :DDDD

Some may see some of these pics I upload as pushing the limits on wholesome but I say to them, "nudism can be sensual and it's okay to be sensual. I don't see nudism as sexual." So, I may upload a pic that is sensual and conveys a sensual feeling or appearance but never sexual.
I try and give my members perspective on types of pictures I want them to submit that depict nudism is a positive light. Too many times I turn away photos of members that submit nothing more than pictures of their genitals. It's painfully obvious what message they are sending. I too will scroll through tons of pictures to find those that depict nudism as normal every day life. I think because we, as nudists, see so many nude bodies in our social nudism participation, seeing the nude body is as normal as seeing a person wear a coat on a cold day.

I love to see lots of naked people for one reason; to continually ensure my wife that we are not alone in this lifestyle and that many, many others from all walks of life also love nudism and living as nudists. It helps with my wife's body image issues, her self esteem and confidence. When I/we see these people and talk with them, I/we find that there are probably many more people that enjoy being naked at home on a daily basis than are willing to admit.

Being around nudity normalises the naked body

Thats actually a pretty good summary of my statement, for me. The overall thread is more geared toward how we nudists have different perceptions about certain things, but the first example I gave is well summed up by your statement (seeing as how you have a much better flair for words than I do)

Thanks Andy, love your writing as usual. Everything you said I'm in total agreement with - porn is OK but doesn't really do anything for me these days. I hear you on the "throw my back out" statement... LOL

In my head I know what I want to say but when I type here it sometimes comes out confusing. Just a tad bit of clarification on my original statement:

When I see pics of nudists I see something that to me looks absolutely and totally normal. Something I (of course) would love to participate in. That is my nudist perspective kicking in. On the other hand I know for a fact that most non-nudists would see the same picture and think of it as abnormal or dirty or porn and definitely not see what I see.

Does that phrase it any better?

As a nudist youre conditioned to see naked bodies as normal, and they are. Non-nudists are more accustomed to seeing naked bodies to titillate (such as the almost naked bodies of Victorias Secret or Abercrombie & Fitch) or to sell sex in pornography. Its unconventional at least in the US for nudity to be presented outside of a sexual context.

Humans are humans and the rest is packaging. Nudists understand and appreciate that. I personally can be a nudist with my clothes on; its a matter of presenting with authenticity and integrity and accepting a degree of vulnerability. Common sense is important: expressing an opinion or taking a naked hike in January arent always a good idea. Nudism is a matter of being open and affirming that we are already complete, whole and beautiful just because we are, and its enough.
