Dead groups

Not a criticism of the admin but despite efforts to clean things up there appear to still be dead groups on this site.

Even when there are many members of the group there is very little discussion and what there is occured months prior. So why does that happen? Are the group creators not taking care of the groups? Are the members more interested in being seen in the group than participating? Are the group's subjects more diserving of a forum thread than a dedicated group?

RE: Dead groups

It is my belief that people join groups in order to have another list of things on their profile that interest them. A lot of groups aren't active because most people spend their time talking here in the regular forums. :) Most people probably think of groups as another interest section on their profile.

It is unfortunate that many good groups are created, then have little activity. The Nude Photography & Graphics Group was created expressly to be a useful outlet for photographers and artists to display their work and share ideas. While not as active as we would like, the moderator Bxnanude and I make regular regular posts to stimulate activity. Other members have responded by posting on occasion.
The group is growing steadily and we welcome all new members who wish to be active.https://www.truenudists.com/group/2122/

On other sites I've seen group moderators take another approachto stimulate activity . . . . . remove the lurkers who don't contribute.

Two things that a frustrating are groups with dozens of members but only a small few are contributing (almost like they're having a private conversation that the rest of the world is listening to) . . . . . . second, groups with hundreds of members and no one is contributing (kind of like the web sites that bost thousands of members because they don't allow members to delete their accounts when they don't find the site interesting).

It's a useful side-effect, but don't depend on a person being interested in the subject of his groups. "Safe" groups make nice profile trophy items.
Some peopoe definately do that. I got a friend request from someone with a blank profile even though I say I won't accept friends like that, I looked to see what groups there were in and when I saw over a page of groups, I knew that that was not way to tell anything about them.

I find it odd/ interesting how many groups a started by uncertified users and / or users who have their information blocked. Usually these are the more questionable groups.

It would be nice to have notification that a post has been made in a group that you are a part of in the same way we get notifications of new members joining that group. The only notification that anyone gets for any group, including becoming a certified member, is your name being broadcast. It is no wonder then why friend-collecting seems to have become the sport of choice around here.

I agree that some groups are created to find other likeminded individuals. Besides, most people create groups because they are genuinely interested in them. I see no reason to delete them.

You'd think though, that if people were that interested in their groups that they'd spend more time to maintain them. Introduce topics. Remove users who are distracting to the group's purpose.

what i don't understand is why do people bother to start a group if they don't have any intentions of participating in the group. a group ijoined is essentially dead. i am the only one that has made any posts, there has been quite a few people that have reviewed my posts but apparently were too busy to leave a response.

RE: Dead groups

I note that you've been very active in the Photography Nudists group (excellents shots, BTW), but that aside from you, Mac and Rudie, the group is essentially comatose. 891 members and DOA. A damned shame, that! It adds more weight to my theory that it's a "safe" group to have in a profile, but that otherwise no one cares.
After months of trying to stimulate activity in the Photography Nudists Group, I quit the group and reactivated the Nude Photography and Graphics Group. Though much smaller, we have far more activity.
