My attempt at fiction
I recently joined a group which encourages creative writing. Each month we each write a Character, an Object, and a Place on a card and toss it in a hat. We draw out a card and then over the next month write a fictional story that uses those three things. My first month I had to use, a lonely man, a pocket watch, and a confessional booth. At first I was at a loss, but eager to try. When one of the other writers said "real life is where to pull from" it clicked , i could use my life experiences to create a story. I choose to make the main character a 20 yrs old kid and sent him out to explore the country on the rails. Sometimes his experiences are mine, sometimes I am the a person he encounters while he travels. I had so much fun with the first story that I choose to continue the story over the next 2 sessions. Each time using the 3 new C,O,P that I drew out. Chapter two was a janitor, a empty coke can, and backstage at the Met. The third a barber, a telescope and Fergus Falls MN. I ended up with about a 8000 word short story with Dover, the 20yr old, having several nude experiences along the way, all events I have experienced while traveling or have played host to others to experience. I have gotten chuckles and positive reactions when I have read the chapters to the group.
