Discussion #6 black history month
Since February is black history month I thought we could talk about the history of black and brown people in naturism nudism. Get your google fingers ready What is the earliest evidence of established nudism/naturism among a black or brown people? What do you know about the history of black and brown people in nudism naturism - Hint start with one of the images in the media gallery.
There is a great series of articles on Clothes Free Life that explores the ancestral history of nudity among black people.
For me, the first I new of black people being nude was the National Geographic Magazines and the pictures of nude Africans. Today i would call them True Naturist in that they lived off of what nature provided.
As Americans, our slavery and religious background have influenced our belief that nudity is degrading, immoral and leads to sex. I think we are moving in the direction of accepting our bodies and not caring what others may think we should look like.

I agree with the above. Before the intervention of the outside world a lot of things were accepting then arent accepting now by society standards thanks to the majority and its leaders close-minded thinking. That thinking has even crept into the minds of many African American men and women which is one reason why there is a significantly a low ration of us in the naturist community. As long as we are being kind to each other, open about he we feel with each other, and doing what makes us happy I dont see whats wrong with it.

Case could be made that slavery and religious background are two sides of the same coin that shape the nature of black view of nakedness from colonial days until today. Being forced to accept those values to survive embedded them deeply in our social psyche but they were forced.

I think it was the indignity of being paraded in front of others in a new land and then judged on the size of their genitalia as to weather or not they would be a good worker of "Breeding Stock." Yes colonial religion was forced on them as well as the women getting upset with their husbands sleeping with the women.
