A lot of that depends on how snug you like your swimsuit. Most of my swimsuits I got when I was a 36-38 inch waist.. but many still fit me, although I am now more a 40-42 inch waist. Remember that Spandex stretches a lot -- but be aware that these smaller suits of mine are also very snug. Also be aware that many suits now are being made to last longer in chlorinated pools, so many are mainly made of polyester with no spandex.. which means no amazing stretching properties for the suit.

What I have found is that several brands are just made for smaller bodies. Most of the Asian makers fall into this category, along with AussieBum, Neptune Scepter and some other brands. But enough about what probably won't work for you.

What I have found works for me, so they should work for you are:
N2N Bodywear. Their XL size is designed for waists -- oh wow, after several years they have changed their sizing charts. It USED to be that Large was 34-38 and XL was 38-42 waist, but now they are showing that Large is for 34-36 and XL is 37-39. SO a bit smaller than what you are seeking--sorry to learn that about N2N Bodywear. But because most of their swimsuits are spandex, they stretch pretty well.

Another maker that I like a lot is Nike. Their size chart shows that their sizing is very forgiving. Size 38 waist suit actually fits waists sized 39-41" and their size 40 suits fit waists 41-43 inches. So, look for a Nike swim brief in Spandex that is size 40 and you should be good. And now I see on the Nike website that the only swim briefs they have right now are all polyester. So I am not doing too well, here. :(

I would suggest for both of those brands, see if you can find an older spandex version of a suit that is the right size.

Apparently, according to the size chart, Turbo brand swimsuits come in 4XL which fits 42-inch waists and 5XL which fits 44-inch waists. I recently got Turbo suit in size XXL (38) and I can get it on my 40-42-inch body -- it is very snug, but it does fit. Like I said, spandex really stretches.
I have attached a couple pics of me in that suit.

Otherwise, do a general search on Google or Amazon for suit that is your size. Another good resource is ebay (especially for the older Nike and N2N suits). I have found several of my N2N and Nike collection on ebay. I have attached pics of me in an older N2N suit in maroon, that I got off of ebay, as well.

I hope that helps!
