Night Hike option
Being from a suburban area, we have many state parks for the city dwellers. The weekends are when most fill the campgrounds. Easier finding quiet hikes and secluded areas in the middle of the week.
I've found it enjoyable hiking at night with a headlamp. It's quiet and a little spooky, but never have I seen anyone but a few pairs of small eyes that quickly scurry away. It's a compromise , no scenery. I'll move at a much slower pace, watching foot placement. but in a shorter amount of time, much excitement.
If the trail is smooth, barefoot is even more of a connection to nature. Eyes and ears are on alert.
