MAKING FRIEND'S LIST REQUESTS

Before I ask for another person to be on my Friend's List , I usually send them a message to show that we have something in common: BUTNOT ALWAYS. I think that I ask someone to be friends just to see if they are interested. Maybe a real friendship will happen or maybe it won't. I am not offended if someone turns me down or ignores ( wasn't meant to be, right ?)
So , my question to everyone here is : How do you handle making friends ? Do you ask first or message them first ?
THANKS, KEN

I ask first then i add them . if they dont want to accept it then all they have to do is deny it .

It all depends:Im not into Friend collecting as happens on some network sites sogenera;y believe thats its more polite tofirst message the other party [& other do the sa,e] BUT if lm clear that we shave a lot in common OR time is short, l will also sometimes just buzz to request they add me as a m8=unless there profile staes otherwise ofcourse! Being a single' single' it aint easy making m8s but on the other hand dont want to add to the negative/desperate/pervy steriotype..
