Nudism, exhibitionism, erections, sex......All part of life. None of us have the right to say what is pure naturism and what is not. Although it appears some folk like to attempt to impose there "values" on the rest of us.
I think most of the posts here are not imposing values but are trying to explore and explain what are the normally acceptable limits of behaviour in different circumstances.
As an example: walking naked in the countryside is both legal and generally acceptable in the UK where my understanding is that it is neither in most parts of the USA.

That maybe true, they are all part of life. But there is a commonly accepted norm which distinguishes between nudity and sex to avoid misunderstandings from the wider, textile community around us. Each has it's place. I think being daring here (on TN) is mainly about being naked in places where it is not normally accepted. TN set up TrueSwingers website for the sexual aspects linked with nudity. The Daring Nudists group there often refers to daringly exhibiting erections.
I just have never been able to understand why anyone would object to seeing an erection. They are just nature, and hiding them is not natural.Where would humans be without erections. They are a beautiful symbol of human fertility
Because many people see sexual behaviour as private, to be experienced in a romantic or other situation, and not for public consumption. An erection however you look at it is sexual.
Lets face it many textiles have a heart attack at a man going topless, so walking around with a boner is a definite no no
There are many people who consider nudity to be sexual and private........Shall we then stay clothed so as not to offend?
There are many people who consider nudity as sexual and we are doing everything we can to try to educate them that this is not the case. Sexuality, or perceived sexuality is the biggest single barrier to textiles accepting nudism.
"Good job there are no women / kids about" is one of the most common responses naked hikers get, and that is purely because people see us as a threat.
Walking about with a cob on only re-enforces that viewpoint and does our "cause" no good at all.
The simple truth is people do not want to see erections - and see them as threatening
I'm unclear of your mandate to be a spokesperson of the "people" you refer to. The actual "simple truth" is that you are incorrectly opinionated to the point of being misguided and misinformed. I am happy to learn of individual opinions, but when they become self proclaimed prophets, I cannot take them seriously.
To clarify, my original scenario is set in an all male, adult environment. My experience is that other guys either ignore my erection, or show a great deal of interest!

I am not mandated, misguided or misinformed. What I am is actively involved in talking to other nudists / naturists, who go about that normal daily naturist lifestyle, and who discuss their encounters both positive and negative with the textile larger population.
What pretty much everyone agrees with is that the majority of textiles are accepting to some degree of the naked body. Many hikers for example just greet fellow walkers with a pleasant hello and mostly the textiles just respond accordingly. Sometime shocked, sometimes amused, but usually not too negative. Those people who aren't accepting, usually fall back on the sexual / threat aspect of people being naked.
I do take in to account your last point about it being an all male environment, but that doesn't alter the fact than many men won't want to see your stiffy. There is no way you can claim this as non-sexual nudity
You are correct, you have no mandate to speak for the people, therefore you should simply state your own opinion and not claim to be speaking on behalf of others. Claiming to voice the opinion of folk you say you have canvassed, is pompous, arrogant and lacks any foundation. You may also note that the majority of comments within this group do not correspond with your views.
