Recovery ideas/regimen (massage gun?)
What do you guys use for recovery? I love getting massages, but find it hard now living in Japan. Massages were definely my "go-to" when I lived stateside (USA), but now it seems impossible. Granted, there are a few legit massage places where I live in Japan, but even those take a turn for the worse when they see you have a boner and are willing to pay extra money. They also don't really do a true deep tissue massage that I like; the communication barrier doesn't help either.
I do have a crap ton of foam rollers, stretch bands, and massage balls at home that just sit in my corner. hahaha. And we all know that that won't help. I do use them occasionally, but not on a regular basis. My biggest thing with working out is making sure you chose something that you can stick to consistently. So with that in mind, tonight it bought a massage gun on Amazon. They look pretty effective and easy. This is my last attempt to make recovery a part of my workout routine. I definitely know I should do it, and I'm hoping this will make it more convienent and enjoyable.
Deep down, I also know I just need to stop being lazy and be accountable for doing it. What is everyone else's opinions, perspectives, struggles, or strategies? Does anyone already own a massage gun?
Don't own a massage gun, but have heard they are pretty effective.. and as an athlete I've found that while massages are a great way to relax after a workout or a sport, they aren't as effective as stretching, especially when weight lifting - so my advice, if you want to avoid the awkward actions of getting a boner during a massage in Japan, take up stretching as a post work out routine.
Massage guns are great ! I feel like they help me recover much much faster. I think when you use them in important so good too look up best time during muscle healing to use. They do vibrate a lot and its good to use with drinking lots of water and taking natural antiinflamatorios like tart cherry juice and turmeric.
Thanks Newtoitall. That's something I keep telling myself to do, but I kick my butt during the working so much that I'm too tired or pressed for time to stretch. It's definitely something I need to start doing though.
