Why is it so enjoyable to be nude in public?
I agree, I see no logical reason that simple nudity is a problem. Actually I find certain modes of dress much more provocative. Nudity in and of itself harms no one, it lets the body breathe naturally. Personally I feel so much better nude unless environmental conditions demand otherwise...
I have had some opportunities to be legally nude in public. My wife says it's not fair for the textiles.
Hi nudisteverywhere. Did I see you are from San Francisco? I had heard it used to be legal to be nude in public anywhere in San Francisco until a nudist made a nuisance of himself exerting that right and that now there are restrictions on public nudity.
I also heard that Barcelona (Spain) passed a bylaw banning public nudity after too many got naked for photos in the Ramblers (the city's central street).
It is legal for a naturist to be naked in public anywhere in the UK after a long and hard-won legal battle by British Naturists. But us nudists are not well understood by the public around us. It is more about what is socially acceptable. Indeed several UK nudist events and resorts ask nudists to be clothed outside the event/resort so as not to upset the neighbours. If nudists were to flaunt their right to be naked in public they may well lose that right.
Your wife has a point. It is truly great being naked. It's also fun pushing the envelope - daring to be naked where it is a bit risky. But we should consider those around us.
I've walked nude with two organised groups in SE England, as well as with a few friends. Since the law clarification about public nudity in this country that Olly mentions above the groups have adopted policies where we remain nude in situations such as if we see other hikers coming our way. I'm not aware of any major issues arising from others seeing us all naked, the groups can number+30 nudists. Often we get positive comments along the lines of '...wish I could get up the nerve to do it like that...' In situations such as where there are children, or we are passing by homes we will cover up minimally. I go walking nude because I enjoy the exercise and scenery and find both even more enjoyable as a nudist. I also love social nudity, whether it is in an all nude environment or in public. We're just ourselves when naked, no clothing to give us false labels etc. I am a nudist, one who likes to be naked whenever and wherever possible, I am open about my nudism. I don't mind who knows, or what they think about me being a nudist. it is enjoyable when others accept us in public as the nudists we are, I am being myself when I am nude, I am not a textile through personal choice. Just as it is good that nudists accept textiles for their preference to be clothed. But, I get that some such as the OP's wife may not like our choice to be nude in public.
Hiking naked in the countryside is expressing out desire to be free, to be naked as we want to be. Is it being nude in public or are those who we come across just incidental?
I think the original post (and photo) is something different. He is wanting to be SEEN naked by as many people as possible. It goes beyond expressing our right to go about our lives naked. It is exhibitionism. Having said that I'm a bit of an exhibitionist myself - but (as his wife mentioned) taking some account of the feelings of those around me.
