Wired Article about Dick Pics
Hello! I hope I put this entry into the appropriate place on TN, as this is my first posting in the forum. Please politely inform me if it belongs elsewhere.
I came across an article today from WIRED magazine: WIRED TAKES A GOOD HARD LOOK AT DICK PICS.
What is interesting about the article is that it focuses a lot on the assumptions that women do indeed, NOT like dick pics. And knowing the community that nudists inhabit, I know this to not be universal. Now there is obviously an argument over sexual pics that show fully erect penises from rather aggressive angles versus those that just show the full naked body in an unexcited state. But still, many of the articles points resonate with the attitudes and perspectives of the nudist community.
There were a couple of quotes that stood out to me:"Heres the thing: Nobody knows whether women like receiving dick pics or not, which researchers were quick to point out as the key limitation of these studies."
"Media suggests that women do not like dick pics, which reinforces the idea that women do not ever have a visual component of their sexuality, Waling says. Lots of them do! But thats counter to the narrative that all women want romance. That theres no room for a more open, raunchier sexuality. Also implicit: Nobody likes looking at mens bodies. Both of these assumptions are wrong, hurtful, and interconnected. In the cisgendered, heterosexual context in which dick pics are usually discussed, reluctance to see mens bodies as sexy is also a reluctance to acknowledge womens sexual desires."
"Mens bodies are afforded a kind of playfulness that womens bodies never are, Waling says. The public discourse around womens nudes is one of shame."
And perhaps the most important: "Waling hopes the conversation catches up with what, for many, is the reality of dick pics today: that they are expressions of horniness and intimacy, a chance to engage with the male body as erotic rather than threatening. She thinks dick pic acceptance might even help put an end to that eternal measuring contest and other anxieties men have about their bodies. As scientists build a more nuanced picture of nude-sharing psychology, they hope culture will embrace dick pic pluralism too."
Ultimately I understand that it all boils down to consent. But even in the nudist world, where "I will show you mine if you show me yours" motivates a lot of us (especially in unlocked private pics on this site), it is interesting to read such words.
What are you thoughts?
I don't think nudist women like "Dick Picks" either.
I think nudist don't focus on genitalia at all. I listened to a podcast recently (The Naked Podcast on BBC Sounds) where the host who are nude, were talking about men sending them Dick Picks and the fact that they don't like them. It seems that some men think that women are just waiting to see their dick. I would say that most "True Nudist" just enjoy being free of the bondage of clothing and being around others who don't care if you are naked.
The first quote suggests the shallowness of the treatment of the subject. "Nobody knows" what exactly?. Some women may like a pic from their lover. Some others might find it offensive or stupid. Who who wants one from the unkempt guy that sits at the desk in the corner and never talks to anyone? Sounds like mansplaining to begin with, as tho "women" are somehow all of one mind on dick pics.
