How do you prefer to live naked - when and where?
Recently while at a local nudist beach some people we know who were sat near us were talking about the travel plans of some other people. They are currently staying at Vera Playa in Spain, they then return to England for about a week before going to the Canary Islands to stay in both Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. They have chosen their destinations and accommodation so as they can be nude 24/7.
The six people near us were agreed that they don't see why people would want to go out to bars and restaurants in the evening while naked, shop nude or walk down the street naked. The people we were with all think that fully nude trips are great, we'd all been on them and want to do more like that. We all live nude at home as much as possible and visit each others homes for social nudism, some of us hike nude with organised groups and we've all gone to various nudist only events at restaurants, galleries etc. We also go to long weekend events at hotels here which have been hired for nudist events, they are great for meeting new nude friends and help break up longer periods in winter when we don't get naked as much away from home. As soon as we'd been on a trip where we were nude throughout our stay we knew we wanted to do it more often while away. It was just an extension to us of how we live at home as soon we walked down a street naked among many other nudists.
I started to talk to some of the people near us, who we know well, about why they don't get why the others are staying where they can remain nude throughout their stays, along with discussing our enjoyment of attending various indoor nude events and their lack of enthusiasm to do the same. They all love outdoor nudity on sunny days but are not very likely to do similar activities on cooler or cloudy days, while the people we were with like to be nude whenever possible. They neighbouring group enjoy going for long nude walks at the beach we were at, it is possible to walk naked there for several miles. We enjoy walking nude elsewhere too. One of them said they walk nude there 'because they can...'. I said that it is not illegal to be nude in public in England so we walk nude outside of recognised nudist areas 'because we can...' This beach used to be officially recognised as nudist by the local council, it no longer is so while social nudity continues there it is due more to historical reasons than anything else. I queried why they felt they like to walk nude there but not in some of the rural locations we do. Thinking about it they came up with no other reasoning as to why it was OK in one place but not the others I mentioned.
I asked why they considered being nude in bars, restaurants and shops within nudist resorts as something they wouldn't do. The common consensus between them seemed to be that they don't live nude at home so they have never felt they wanted to do what the people I was with consider to be normal behaviour while on nudist holidays, It can often be very warm at night in the locations our friends are visiting, so night time nudity makes as much sense to them and us as being naked during daytime, yet it seems our other friends prefer to sweat in clothing. An experience which we consider as a very good reason for being nudists!
Thinking about it afterwards we realised that those who like the option of full time nudity all refer to themselves as nudists, the others call themselves naturists. We have no idea if this is a common difference between those who enjoy life clothes-free in different ways, 24/7 indoors and outdoors and others who tend to just enjoy being nude socially outside during warm sunny weather.
Where do others in this group place themselves? What reasoning is behind your choice of name to describe your naked socialising. What are your preferences - nude whenever possible or nude for sunbathing and similar activities?
Whilst at Vera Playa earlier this month someone referred to me as a hard line nudist. OK we strip off when we get into the hire car at the airport and stay naked until turning the car in a week later] But we weren't behaving differently than anyone else. Maybe it was because we shunned the bars and cafes in Hotel Street which insist on clothing in the evenings. We could always find somewhere to dine naked - daytime and evenings.
It has amused us when staying at Cap d'Agde in France. Every thing can be done naked. And everyone is naked during the day. Our early evenings were spent people-watching in a big bar at a crossroads. We noted how people changed from naked to clothed as the sun set (the men were boring but the women dressed very provocatively (tits, bums and pussies emphasised, not covered). And, as always we stayed naked 24/7 and never went hungry. One amusing juxtaposition was a pair of restraints very close to each other on opposite sides of a night club entrance. The one we used allowed nudity day and night. the other required trousers and a shirt.
We will be staying in the Canaries in late November and over Christmas and New year. There will be no problem in November -We'll be at Charco del Palo, the nudist village. But we couldn't find anywhere for Christmas. Our apartments will be nudist but we'll have to eat in an adjacent bar or restaurant which require clothing. It's a pity that the fully nude places in Maspalomas were already fully booked. But our take on being clothed is barely decent - almost like those women in Cap d'Agde.
I do have one question: In places where one can be naked why do so many naturists dress for dinner. I (and my friend) are often the only ones naked.

Will you have taking only the clothes you wear on the plane for the first trip?
I realized I identified as a seriously "naked-getting guy" when I realized that I like to be out of my clothes as soon as possible, for instance, when I get home from work. Or after gassing up the car and leaving the gas pump for my next destination, which is, ideally, a place where there is no expectation that I'd wear clothes as long as I'm at wherever I'm going. So en route there (and back), I've driven naked in major stretches of heavily trafficked multi-lane highways and through urban centers, and never had an issue. I do keep something handy, like a shirt or a towel, to throw across my lap in case somebody seems to be getting a little too interested; but most drivers are too busy paying attention to the traffic (doing their job, in other words) to keep an eye out for naked drivers. And once I'm inside the gate of a naked place, I'm naked for the duration. An evening naked at a bar: of course.
I've yet to make it to places such as the Canary Islands; I've had to be satisfied with places where I can check in naked, at the office, unpack naked, sleep naked, and get up wearing only the nothing that is all I need to wear all day. I love it when this continues for at least three or four days at a time.
It's not a matter of exhibitionism. I just love the feeling of my uncovered cock and balls hanging free, while the breezes and sun are caressing my body in its one-button union suit. And I love to see others, both male and female, enjoying the same freedom.
I'm not into the "shock effect", so I don't go naked in the yard: to catch someone else without prior warning that "they may see an unclothed body" just isn't cool, to my way of thinking.
But I'm looking forward to the day when the US can be as civilized as the UK or other places in Europe, and no one would have a reason to be bothered when I go out unencumbered by unnecessary clothes of any kind to fetch the mail.

"I know we're all wired differently and that's a good thing. The issue I have is that those of us that prefer to live naked as much as possible don't give those that do not, any grief but it seems as though those that only get naked at clubs, resorts and beaches, don't get why we'd want to be naked and live naked all the time and do give us grief from time to time about it. ;-)"
My thoughts too. We're visiting a nudist club or resort because we're nudists and can't be naked 24/7 at similar places that don't cater for nudists, yet we're the ones that get the odd reactions. We have no objections to people wearing clothes in a clothing-optional setting while we're nude, yet we do pick up on some behaviours which indicate that not everyone is 100% OK with our nudity, we don't get too worked up by that. But when the venue calls itself such and such Nudist venue and its promotional material only mentions nudists, nudism and nudity with virtually nothing about clothing-optional, unless it is in reference to cooler weather, we've taken to pointing out that it is a "Nudist" establishment when its clear that some think we should be dressed somewhere on the premises. We're often paying above the odds to be at a nudist venue, compared to similar textile places, so we want maximum nudity for our bucks.
Don't get me started..........!!
I live nude at home and my wife does most of the time. I would love to be in a place where we can be nude 24/7 however I know my wife would wear something most of the time. She has body positive issues more than anything. She would commitment if I had her body, I would be nude all the time. She also doesnt want to run into someone we already know in the textile world while nude.
I am looking into trying a nude cruise next year. I know she will go as long as she doesnt have to be nude all the time.

Hopefully the more time you two spend socialising with nudists the less the body issues will matter. Nudists often tend to be very accepting of each other no matter what shape everyone comes in. When we have run into people we know from the textile world while we're all nude its been a pleasant surprise when we discover that each other are nudists. Usually the facts are that we didn't know the other were nudists because we hadn't known each other that well so we'd not got around to discussing our leisure activities. Once we knew we were all nudist sometimes we've become better friends because of this, and with others we've continued to be acquaintances rather than friends because aside from nudism we didn't have so many other things in common.
At the resort that I mentioned in Palm Springs, 3 of the couples in the group, including us, would get rooms right next to each other. During the day, we'd open the adjoining room doors and could go from one room to the next. Sometimes, a couple would have a beverage, snack, liquor we preferred and it was decided that we'd just go in and help ourselves to whatever was in any of the rooms. We all took turns getting a kitchen room and so many times, one, two or more of us would be in the kitchen room for something.
We used to laugh at some of the people that thought we were some sort of swinger group. They'd see us together with our spouse but then go into a room with another and come out a different door. We had the pool deck completely confused. It took showing some of them our set up and routine to get them to understand that what they thought was going on was not going on.
The reason for that story was that some people thought it was weird for me and one of our female friends to be sitting naked on our bed, their bed talking and laughing or sharing a tablet to find us a place to go and eat for the night. Because we were naked and on a bed, their minds instantly went to sex. You wouldn't think that if both people were clothed but because we were naked, it gave them that thought and we were at a place where nudity was commonplace. I remember us talking with a couple of couples that stated that we were such a close group of friends that they thought we must be having sex together. They couldn't separate that misconception from the fact that we were just really good, close friends and the only difference was that in our relationships, we are usually nude because it's our preference of being.
We always try and patronize establishments that either cater to , welcome or allow nudists to eat, drink, shop while nude. When we visited Club Orient on Orient Bay on the island of St. Martin, many of the concessions allowed topless use. Two places in particular actually catered or welcomed nudists to eat and drink as long as you had something to sit on. There we a few places where you could shop right on the beach and many of the nudist women went there completely naked and walked out with wraps, sundresses, jewelry, sandals and even bathing suits! My wife love shopping in those places naked. She'd just walk in, see something and slip it on. The cool part was that the young ladies working the places were usually minimally dressed as well so they welcomed the nudists. The clothing and cover ups seemed to cater to the nudists anyway. But some of the nudists from Club Orient would visit as well but actually get dressed and then look at us like we were crazy for shopping at these places naked. One woman asked the owner of one shop, "can they be naked in here!?" The woman, a French woman, responded in her French accent "but of course! The nudists are our best and favorite customers!" We wanted to tell the woman that had asked this question and had been laying nude with her husband just a few lounge chairs down from us that maybe if she had been shopping naked, the owner may have given her a discount like she gave me wife! ;DDD
There are three local couples that we spend a lot of time with at nudist places and each others homes who share our preference to be nude as much as possible. We do some things with them that are not in nudist settings but when we're with them we're all naked for the vast majority of the time. Just like you Andy we're often in situations where we're nude with just one of the others of the opposite sex, its as natural for us to be like that as if we were in a textile group. Similar situations occur between us when we're in other nudist settings with more people around, I might go for a swim with one of the other women or my partner may go for a walk and chat with one of the men. We've had similar suggestions made to us along the lines of are we all in open relationships, even by people we thought knew us all quite well. We started asking people who put these suggestions to us if they'd ask us the same things if we were clothed. That tended to end the voiced speculation, no doubt it continues out of earshot.
We've both long been used to having platonic friends, my best friend when I was at university was female, we don't see each other much now but we are still great friends. Other friends long suspected we were in a relationship, despite us both stating it wasn't the case and each of us going out with other people and socialising with our suspected 'secret partners at the same time. Some people have trouble understanding that it is possible for people to be just friends if they are of opposite gender. I'm aware of people of the same sex who get on really well and socialise together a lot who've been asked whether there was more going on between them. The speculation seems to be amplified if you're nudists who get on well with other nudists you're not in a known relationship with.
We're with you on using eating and drinking establishments where we can be nude, rather than the places that insist on us wearing clothes while at a 'nudist' club or resort. IT can mean our choice of places to use are limited but we really don't get what is wrong with being nude at a nudist resort. Its the same for shops. I don't recall ever buying any clothing while nude other than flip-flops(thongs to any Aussies) but my better half also loves clothes shopping while nude, despite me reminding her we're nudists at a nudist resort!
We have plenty of nudist experiences where nobody complains if everyone is nude, many others where we're expected to be nude, many where clothing is optional. But the insistence, or expectation, on wearing textiles in a nudist environment baffles us.
I'll have to (with careful selection!) see if I can claim a discount in a shop if I'm naked!
Firstly, anyone reading this thread is very welcome to add comments. It may have been Andy and I sharing stories here recently, but its not just for us!
I treat that speculation about 'what was really going on...' in much the same way that I do negative reactions when people discover we're nudists. I don't really care, I enjoy nudism, I'll continue being a nudist with the same outlook that I had before. So they can speculate all they like the people we've been seen enjoying life with while naked in public, who are not are partners, know what was going on, that is more important - sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will never hurt us. Yes, words can be very spiteful, and hurtful, but tomorrow is a new day and we want it to be a nude day.
That was a nice story about the walk with the two female friends. I agree that nudism can open and broaden minds, being naked together can put a very different perspective on things. Much like how we've very rarely seen very angry or aggressive behaviour by nudists when if similar incidents had occurred in a textile environment raised voices, at the very least, would probably be much more likely. Nudism can help us relax, we're comfortable physically so maybe it helps us talk more comfortably too. When we're at nudist places or naked with friends in our homes we're there to be sociable, we're not so likely to be doing what we'd do on our own at home. We're open to long conversations, of course this can be done while wearing clothes, but the relaxation of being nude helps me do this for sure.
I laughed at the prospect of textiles going into shops to see what nudists were doing in them. I've heard of secret shoppers being employed to check out how staff react to certain situations. Are there any jobs going for nudist shoppers to attract more custom? I can usually find more interesting things to do than shop, but I might offer to shop nude in the right situations. I admit to sometimes doing more shopping at nudist resorts than elsewhere, simply because I can do it naked, as with much anything else.
In a similar way one day at our nearest nudist beach I was walking down to the sea with a female friend, it was a very hot day, 35 C and people were making more trips into the water than normal. We met another female friend coming out of the water, neither of us had seen her for several weeks and she spontaneously put an arm around me and her other one around the other friend, it felt entirely appropriate. But, just as you wondered Andy, I was curious as to what people who don't know us that well wondered was going on, we were certainly looked at. We all use that beach a lot, we're well-known but it is obvious that not everyone understands that we can all be really good nude friends, with absolutely nothing else going on between us, other than that we enjoy each others company without anything sexual going on. Honest!!!
I am struggling to find the best way of wording how we find we get on with our closest nudist friends and about how it is on a level we've never experienced with textile friends, but like you it probably couldn't be understood, or experienced with any textile. Great nudist friends really are the best friends for us too. Maybe its something to do with when our bodies are bare together our souls are bared more fully too.
I can't imagine ever not being a nudist, life is so much better naked together.
