Nudity on TV

I know there are differences between Countries and what they show on TV. It's also true that most nudity on TV is sexually based.
I have however noticed that different TV shows treat nudity in a different was when it is totally non-sexual. The incidents I am talking about are when a body is in the morgue and they are discussing the causes of death.
in CSI they always seem to cover the body with a sheet. I'm sure this is not realistic for an autopsy lab.
In NCISthey use strong lighting to mask the 'bits' - quite clever really.
In 'Silent witness' (the UK equivelant to CSI) they don't bother to hide anything and the actor just has to lie there naked and trying not to breath too heavily.

Just wondered what people thought about this, a naked corpse is totally non-sexual and if they would be naked in reality they should show it - well I think they should

IMHO, if they can show all that blood & guts, they certainlyshould not be opposed to showing nudity.
I totally agree. Why is it ok to show so much gore, death and destruction, which surely harms impressionable minds way more than any vision of nudity could possibly do? Society has it all wrong.

Unfortunately, I know more people who barely blink at violence and bloody gore, but get all shocked when it comes to nudity. Disturbing and sad.

I fully agree and cannot understand why it is ok to show people being shot, assaulted, and hacked to death as long as the killer or victim is not nude or someone is seen nude taking a shower

Nudity on TV

I believe the problem that people have today concerning sex and nudity can be laid at the doorstep of just one individual. With warm regards to all of our British friends, I'm sorry to say that person was Queen Victoria. Her views on civility, nudism and sexuality became the standard for all of the British Empire. At that time the British Empire reached to the far corners of the globe and along with it, its views on religion, government and morality. They did such a tremendous job of inplanting their ideas, that vestages of that thinking remains with ustoday. Most of us today are very happy to share those views on civility and culture even while we question, and try to eliminate, the prudish Victorian views. Back then, killing and fighting was a common thing and in the case of the British military, a noble thing. A person's body and sex was something that wasn't talked about in polite circles so it was hidden away. Unfortunately, those same viewpoints remain and are widely held to this day.

Don't think it was entirely Victoria's fault but the Victorian society. Victoria used to bathe (on her own) completely naked in the sea. She asked her doctor if there was a way of having sex without getting pregnant (condoms were illeegal so the doc said 'no') Victoria and Albert were at it all the time. She also smoked pot to relieve her period pain!!
The reason Victorian society was like that was because the previous kings were party animals so this was a reaction against it.

in those 80's slasher horror movies they mixed gore with nudity. at some time in the movie an attractive college age girl gets stabbed, hacked or impaled to death whilst in the shower. i've seen more than my share of the slasher horror movies in my earlier years to have noticed this in many movies, yet also noticed that many of the movies were low budget with bad plots and effects and they tend to make you laugh.

One word: Religion.
Nailed it!
Yes because only religious people oppose public nudity. And everyone on here is an atheist.

It's all in one's perception. And it doesn't even have to be about nudity.

In a conversation with my mother once about some 'prime time series' she stated that she didn't like them cause there was too much crime, hate, sex and so forth, but then I pointed out to her that God help the person who distracts her from her soap opera at 3pm, that she watched, everyday for almost 20 years.....she stood there, speechless. ...go figure.

Although I'm a devout atheist I wouldn't actually blame the Religions themselves. If we were to follow the original Religious beleif we wouldn't be allowed to wear swim suits. There are Religious naturist groups. Originally society was far more based on Religion and we are still living in the shadow of that and every step usually takes a fight. If you remember the song from the 50/60s the 'itsy bitsy teany weany yellow polka dot bikini' the girl would have been wearing a huge bikini but embarassed by her lack of clothing. Only 50 years ago but we now have moved on to the micro bikini. I hope that we will eventually see nudity as 'normal' on the beach.
As to the comment about not noticing the state of dress of the corpse, I was prompted by another show when they chatted about it!!
