We moved to SC from the Chicago area several years ago. While we do get some snow here on rare occasion, it's amusing to us that they delay school openings by two hours if a 1/2" of snow is predicted. School closings if two inches happens to fall.
On a serious note. it's my hope that those in the snowbound North have a gradual rather than a rapid meltdown so widespread flooding dosen't add to your misery.
We had a particularly bad winter here (by UK standards anyway) and because I don't live on a main route the local council didn't grit the roads or pavements. Had a bad slip on the 22nd December and I'm still suffering with lower back muscle damage even now. Hoping we don't get more snow as the rules where I work would mean that I'd have to struggle in no matter how bad the conditions are.
Another 4" coming tonight/tomorrow. Hell, we won't even notice 4 more inches of icing on this cake. However, very early this morning in Moncton the roof caved in on a large daycare, thankfully before anyone was there. One local company which removes snow from commercial and private rooftops have for the time being suspended taking new orders.....they are booked up for weeks in advance. The spector of a rainy spring is frightening a lot of people here.
Hey, we have had more luck than you folks out that way, not that we dont have more than enuff snow now too. lol. I just keep in mind we are hardy flatlander stock. Also every week is closer to spring. Well thats my positive outlook for ole man winter. hahahah. Hope you dont get 4 more weeks of storms. I think your already 9 for 9 weeks?

Well, Atlantic Canada is no stranger to winter storms, the eastern seaboard is normally a conveyor belt for deep southern moisture from fall until into the spring. We'll blame that on the Yanks ;) The key factor is where Mr. Jet Stream sets up. Too far north, we get mild air and rain, too far south and it snows only on the fish. This winter actually got off to a slow start, we barely had enough snow for a white Christmas...but shortly thereafter we've been nailed every 5-6 days with frightening regularity. Municiple snow budgets are all blown to hell, next winter better be an open one. I have a second vehicle in our yard that I haven't used since fall.....or seen in a month. A Chrysler Intrepid, Cinnamon Glaze in color. Quite pretty from what I remember.
Luckily the limited government crowd didn't get their way yet, otherwise we'd be up to our keisters in snow because we cut taxes so much we had nothing left to pay for government services. ORRRR, we could wait for "business" to take care of us since they knowsoooo much more than government. Yeah, that's the answer.
Don't believe in global warming? then grab a shovel and start digging. If that doesn't appeal to you, then be quiet, pay your taxes and be grateful each man isn't left to fend for himself.
Tea anyone??
