Corona Virus Pandemic
The Corona Virus pandemic is eerily like the one I imagined in my novel 'Someday', in which a rogue scientist creates a deadly virus in a government bio-warfare lab, and releases it at every major airport in the world. In my story the virus is highly contagious and attacks the lungs. The only survivors are people living in isolated communities, like islands in the South Pacific. The name of the island, and my novel, is 'Someday'.
No, I haven't read it. I did read one of the Tom Clancy 'Jack Ryan' novels (I forget which) where The US had a brief war with Japan over trade, in which two Japanese pilots flew a jet airliner loaded with fuel into the Library building in Washington, killing the president and most of the government. That pre-dated nine-eleven.
In my novel 'Someday' the world's population is drastically reduced by a pandemic, just like the Corona virus we are struggling with today. Also in my story the Earth is irradiated by a coronal mass ejection, a huge plasma cloud from the sun, which destroys all electronic technology on Earth. Last Friday there was a solar flare which NASA says is a sign of the sun going into a more active phase, and may cause global power outages. I hope it's not as catastrophic as in my book!
I know it sounds like a downer, but I was writing about things that concern me, and the human race. I did a lot of research about our chances of survival, and the dangers facing us. I enjoyed writing my book, as there are some humourous moments in it too, as well as plenty of sex. It is an erotic novel, featuring LGBT relationships along with some hetero characters, living on an island Paradise.
I started writing the sequel but shelved it for a while, as I wanted to write a serious novel without so much sex, but my publisher (eXtasy) is all about erotic literature!
I was not surprised when the Corona epidemic broke out, and the virus attacks the lungs, as in my story.
My first book 'Mirrors' is about a young man's journey of sexual self-discovery.
Thanks for your comments.
People don't realize how much chaos a large CME would create in our electronic/computer based world. The pandemic will only increase the reliance on electronics. I am about 90% through a first draft of a novel that has a CME as the triggering event in the collapse of society. The story is about the survival of people in a small community in the mountains of Colorado, Covid has caused me to go back and add to the backstory based on prognostications about how the virus will change our society. Change of subject - erotica is fun and easy to write. It was suggested to me that writing erotica was a good way to get the creative juices going and working your way out of a slump. It works. I have an erotic novella that I need to finish someday soon.
Good luck with your novel. I enjoy writing erotica, but 'Someday' was also a serious story. I think it would make a great movie, but the problem with erotica is it is aimed at a niche readership. Getting the story to go mainstream would be difficult, perhaps, although 'Fifty Shades of Grey' made it.
