tow behind vs RV's
Hi all,
As we age we are looking at something easier then our pop up 4x4 camper. Still want and need 4x4 as we like to go bush. We have rented a few RV's in NZ and Tassie and like the idea but not 100% this is better then tow behind. Anyone with experience moving from campers to RV's, again more for off road travel. thanks
I like to go to fairs, air show and steam gatherings where I plan to stay several days. Using a motorhome really limits my ability to take side trips or go for supplies without loosing my camp site. I could tow an other vehicle, but if I am going to tow something I would rather tow a trailer than a vehicle. On the other hand, when I take trips where the trip is the event and I want to change where I stay every night anyway, the motorhome is much easier to get in and out of parking lots than a tow vehicle and trailer. Where you are going and what you plan to do makes the difference.
I reviewed all replies to your original post and they are all great. I have been RV'ing since 2012. I'm an old pop-up camper. I recommend a 5th wheel for overall cost, convenience and travel comfort. However, as I get older I may downsize to a used Class C with a tow behind. To me a used Class A pusher is very attractive, but systems maintenance and cost$ can become an issue. Just my opinion. So I settled to keeping my house and going on the road for up to six months at a time rather than full-time RV'ing. My 5th wheel is 29' and pulled by a 2011 econobust Ford 150. I highly recommend joining Escapees (Escapees.com). They really support their members and publish a great bimonthly RV magazine. Happy trails.
