The Security code ??

Get rid of the stupid code that has to be put in before sending some one a message between friends.. it is assinine to have it. I could see it used if someone wants to send a message or friend request.. to someone unknown. And requesting to be friends. However, to have to do it every darn time you send a message to someone on your freinds list is STUPID.. get rid of it

It's there for good reason. Even WITH the code, there are people who attempt to spam the site with ads, scams, and come-ons; the code certainly slows them down and doubtless stops most of them entirely. This would be a very different neighborhood without such protection.

I dont think this way, coz friends should talk/write as much as they want without that security code, but if someone starts spamming then there should be a button to stop him writing... (( starting a blocklist, or sc))

It's no great inconvenience to type 6 characters to be free of spam. I really don't see the problem here.

I'm not a fan of the security code especially because more than once i've typed it correctly but it comes up as "Security Text Does not match" which forces me to do the whole message over again. I do however understand why it's there. I do agree that it should be there on the initial message but it would help if it was not necessary for a reply sent to someone that just sent you a message or if there is a conversation already established between two people through the messaging system. All in all, it's just an inconvenience.

I've had that happen, too. So I'm trying to make this habit, if I'm typing something long and complicated; when I've finished typing and before I hit "Send" (or whatever it is you hit), I select the whole message and copy it to the clipboard.
Then if I get the CAPTCHA wrong, and have to do the message again, I just have to paste it in.
It's funny, isn't it! You type something carefully, considering every phrase and choosing every word, and you finally get it right ...
... then lose it all ...
whatever you type the second time, you're positive it isn't nearly as good as the first.

Like Harry metioned, copying it into the clipboard incase of an error works good. also when typing the code lowercase letters will work if that is eaiser for one to type.
It is a small price to pay for mail filtering.

A CAPTCHA or Captcha is a type of challenge-response test used in computing as an attempt to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer. The process usually involves one computer (a server) asking a user to complete a simple test which the computer is able to generate and grade. Because other computers are supposedly unable to solve the CAPTCHA, any user entering a correct solution is presumed to be human. Thus, it is sometimes described as a reverse Turing test, because it is administered by a machine and targeted to a human, in contrast to the standard Turing test that is typically administered by a human and targeted to a machine. A common type of CAPTCHA requires the user to type letters or digits from a distorted image that appears on the screen.
CAPTCHA
The codes have no effect on human spammers. Their purpose is to reduce the success rate of spambots, computer programs that automatically send spam. Since one must be logged in to send PMs, the codes are meaningless to people, but assuming that an automated system registered an account, they would have a purpose in blocking PMs from it.
The more sophisticated spambots have OCR capability (optical character recognition) than can read the simpler CAPTCHA codes, so its an ongoing cold war between spammers and the developers of sytems to block them.
The codes are a minor annoyance, but they serve a purpose.

Agree 100%. The very MINOR inconvenience of typing in a 6 letter code is well worth keeping spambots out of here. You'll learn quickly to copy anything you type any where on this site (other than the chatroom) to avoid losing your message due to forgetting to type the security code or from "pinging out" when typing a long forum or group post.

One of the improvements I would love to see, would beto able to send a message to more than one person at a time.

Before I send any message, I highlight it and copy it. Besides entering the wrong security code, I've been automatically logged off and wasn't aware of it until I got the message telling me I must be logged on to send an item. By then the original item will have been lost.

Captcha security codes exist to foil the automated scripts that can generate and send spam faster than you can imagine.
They work, while providing a very minor inconvenience to humans.
The 7 or 8 seconds it takes a person to type in a code saves 7 or 8 THOUSAND spams that could have been easily sent
in that same time frame but for the captcha.
We may be slightly annoyed until we realize what good they do.
Now, shoot a spammer.
