The antivaxxers and the pandemic

At the beginning of this pandemic, I naively thought that maybe this would take the wind out of the sails of the antivax movement. Given that the entire world was reminded of how absolutely essential vaccines are for our ability to live a normal, everyday life and given that the whole world is now waiting with bated breath for the COVID-19 vaccine, I thought that maybe some of the antivaxers would take a step back for a while and rethink their absurd position. Unfortunately, I dont think thats happened. They just seem to have doubled down and become more ridiculous than ever. Sigh

Agreed, I was hoping the same thing. Maybe because a vaccine may take some time it will make some of these people stop & think, it may take some time for logic and science and common sense to get through the outer shell stopping real thought processes not unsubstantiated nonsense. It may take millions of deaths before a vaccine and then CV getting under some control before some people change their views. Political leaders who claim CV is a hoax or was fake news or whatever don't help either.

I thought maybe there was some hope against the anti-vaxxers recently when a well known celebrity chef (TV cooking show host) here in Australia was made to look silly with his views. In his case I'm not sure if there has been a lot of fall-out but he and many / most like him have this same look on their faces and use the same line "they don't want you to know, but ....." and then they ramble on with their views / opinions. The people making these nonsense claims are not doctors or scientists and have no relevant qualifications in the area they are talking about but somehow they get air time or newspaper space, that is what I find frustrating.
