If you can't find a ride from NYC, you might be able to take a train and get a ride from the station.

To be more specific, take the North Jersey Coast Line from Penn Station.
Middletown, Red Bank, LIttle Silver and Long Branch are the 4 closest stations to Gunnison.

Driving to Sandy Hook is nice--and you can do it naked. The SeaStreak ferry from Manhattan is waaay faster than the drive, but not cheap. Anyway, the ferry is running from Manhattan to Highlands, NJ, which is the small town just off Sandy Hook. The ferry is not going right to Sandy Hook beach now, but the ferry company says they will resume that at some point. I take the ferry from NYC to Highlands and then hop on my bike to the beach. An easy ride. Or you can take a cab or Lyft from Highlands to the beach and then back again at the end of the day. Just a couple of suggestions.
