Now that I am so comfortable with my 5" inseam gym shorts, I am seriously considering replacing my 8" cargo shorts with something the same length.
Any opinions or experience with this type of shorts?

5" inseam cargo shorts arrived today. Perfect length for most activities, but may be a little too short for a few like going to church or playing in a concert.

I have decided that as my 8 to 10 inch dress shorts wear out, I will replace them with 5 inch shorts. I do have 2 pairs of zip off cargo pants that become about 9 inch shorts that I can wear places where I would not be comfortable with the shorter ones.

I'm thinking that nice dress shorts, even if shorter, would get you in more places, as it were, than unzipped cargo pants due to style taking precedence over length.

I now wear cargo shorts almost anywhere, including restaurants, theaters, concert halls and church, so I haven't experienced any problems.

3" shorts arrived today.Perfect for yard work and when I can't be naked at home but probably too short for the gym.Shortest shorts feel more annoying and confining every time I wear them. Considering either opening the side and crotch seams for more freedom or just ripping them to shreds. Anyone prefer one idea over the other?

Decided to open the sides to the waist but leave the crotch intact. Opening it would likely create problems when sitting.

On further thought, I decided that I really don't have any use for them so I destroyed them by my favorite method. Cut and ripped them while wearing them until there was nothing left but the waistband which I then removed and threw out with the other pieces.

Shorts arrived yesterday.
Two pair of the longer ones will go on the next trash day,
While I will keep the pair that is in the best shape for a while, I suspect that after wearing shorter shorts most of the time, the longer ones will feel so burdensome that they will be gone soon also!

Since I bought 3 short ones, I also got rid of an old t shirt to keep my clothing count even,
