along Amtrak's Empire Builder route mid Sept 2019

I am planning a cross country train trip mid Sept 2020 beginning here in Indiana and riding west on the Empire Builder. It will take me through WI, MN, ND, MT, ID, WA and maybe even a dip down to Portland OR. I want to hope off in each state and spend a day exploring before hoping on the next train westbound.
