Computer Problems.
(From Wall_E on another thread)
Thanks DJ, keep up the good work. I wish I could be there with you, but chat crashes my system and I can't be without it right now.
Phil.
it will not chrash if you're using firefox or some similar browser instead of internet explorer.try it ometimes .at least you will be able to chat here with no problems.
Thanks Wall, you probably know more about it than I do, but I think it's has a few probs. When it crashes, it usually comes up with "stacks overflow" change settings in your config.sys file. Couldn't see how to get to that, but I think it's set to take as much as it needs, so I guess it's run out of ram or something. When I try to reboot it, it says a few different things like files missing, and it takes hours of constant trying to get it to go again and keep going long enough to restore an old back up. Afraid to make a new back up in case it copies an error. I need it right now, so I'm reluctant to risk trying to do anything with it, but thanks anyway.
Phil.
did you just upgrade the ram??
if you did try removing some maybe the amount you upgraded is not permited by the hardware ( Wich i dont really understand why it happens )
or maybe it could be ram erros Try Replacing Them
or Maybe Hard Drive Problems
i Dont THink it Can Copy Errors Just Files So Try Backing Up Get a New HDD
Hope i Helped

Thanks for the reply, I've not increased the ram lately, had a new h/drive a while back, loads of room on that. It's been ok for 6 or 7 weeks now, and as I still need it, and I don't know what I'm doing :( I'm still afraid to mess with it.
For any version of Windows, Startup Control Panel is a user-friendly way to manage what starts at bootup. I always recommend the stand-alone version. It runs from where it's saved.
I prefer msconfig. So far, I've yet to find a M$ system post-W98 that doesn't have it.IAC, more RAM is always better.
AGREED !!
Depending on the version of Windows Vista that is installed,
In professional circles, we still advise to run away from Vista as fast, and far as possible, any version !
All indications are that Win7 ( stripped down Vista, most of the DRM stuff removed ) is the next hot ticket, possibly even better than XP-Pro ( at whatever servive pack it's at by now )
*I* still recommend AGAINST automatic update, but what do I know ?
