Agreed, poor choice of words, sounds like a 1980's attempt at lad humour, 1/2 funny, 1/2 not, bit of a head shaker really. The woman obviously wants him to partner her to the party, I say go for it.

follow up. between Christmas and New years she and and another writer ( male) in the group met up for a meal and hot tub soak . When it was time to soak, she said she was going to go get her swimsuit out of her car, he said the same, I said " i was not planning on wearing a suit" to which they both said " fine we wont either" and we all stripped down for the soak. but did put clothes on after to make the zoom connection with the rest of the writers
