Artificial tanning beds hurt your skin and eyes, so forget the commercials.
Tan 30 minutes every day for a week in April, then it's ok to get sun all day for the rest of the season until November. There's no problem for me and I'm half milk pale Irish. I still have a tan from last year and I never use sun screen but who knows if it's dangerous.

Prior to the mid 1800s, everyone skinny dipped. Swimwear hadn't been invented.
The world changed quickly and by 1860, Queen Victoria of England had outlawed nude swimming. The English speaking world's opinion toward nudity changed under her reign. It started to become more "Clothes Minded."
The U.S. has a long history of presidential skinny dippers: John Quincy Adams, Teddy Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson all abandoned their skivvies. President Johnson even went skinny dipping while in office with evangelist Billy Graham, a fraught endeavor if ever there was one. Other famous promoters of skinny dipping: Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, Herman Melville and Norman Rockwell.
Nude swimming is as American and fun as hot dogs, baseball, and apple pie.
As of Sunday, August 19th, America has a new famous skinny dipper, Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder. A news story broke that he went skinny dipping in the Sea of Galilee in Israel while on a GOP political junket. More than 20 other GOP lawmakers and staffers also went into the water in different stages of dress and undress.
The FBI was brought in to investigate.
In a 2006 Roper poll, 25% of adult Americans admitted to having skinny dipped in mixed company. Worldwide, topless and nude sunbathing are increasingly common vacation choices. All beaches in Spain are now legally topless and many are nude.
One of Congressman Yoder's mistakes was picking a spot to go skinny dipping where it is illegal to do so. What he should have done was go to Tel-Baruch beach north of Tel Aviv, which has a long history of topless and nude sunbathing. Then, instead of being in hot water, he'd have been in refreshing nudist waters.
The American Association for Nude Recreation, America's nudist advocates, recommends people skinny dip in appropriate settings like their own back yards, nudist resorts and clubs, legal nude beaches and so on.
Obviously, Congressman Yoder is a typical American who enjoys skinny dipping like over 50 million other Americans. In the spirit of keeping him out of trouble in the future, here is a list of 10 beaches where he can legally skinny dip without leaving North America.
And for everyone else, if you haven't tried nude swimming yet, I heartily recommend it. It is one of the most fun, relaxing, refreshing ways to vacation.

I like to be tan. I however suffer from "Farmer's tan" Since becoming a nudist, I have tried to blend the two tones together a bit. But I have seen some people who look like dried leather. Yikes!
I think there is thing as too tan, and I do not want to go that far, or anywhere near it.
Some sun is good..Vitamin D I believe, but they say only 10 minutes a day is needed.
Something like that.
Stay naked!
My wife is a dedicated, committed and willing participant in our nudist lifestyle. Early on, she wore a beautiful golden tan. I was amazed at how much color she had hiding under her pale Irish skin. But ... after having several pre-cancer moles removed ... NO MORE sunbathing for her! She lathers on the sunscreen for protection from reflective sun, is always under an umbrella and limits her exposure to the direct sun as much as possible and I challenge many a "nudist" to compare her commitment to this lifestyle just because she doesn't "tan" anymore. ; )
While I much prefer outdoor nudism, most of my nudist activities have always been inside because I've always lived in cities. Even the monthly swims of the organization I was a member of in my hometown were held in an indoor pool. Now, I live in the country on a beautiful piece of land with some secluded areas begging for me to use them for nudist recreation: But, the people I live with are not nudists so I will have to wait until they go on vacation or something.
When I am out in the sun I never use sunscreen and I get dark on my arms and legs real fast. Since I could never be nude enough time to have it even I always have some very bright white areas that make me look somewhat like I'm wearing tennis shorts when I'm nude.
So, my point is the tannes of one's skin is in no way a reflection on the nudeness of their heart, mind, or soul.
