A friend of mine once told me that a nudist went around without their clothes on while a naturist went around without their clothes on and talked about it.
I really do not see much of a difference between the two. You can call me a nudist or a naturist I dont care.
However in talking with people I often say I am a naturist which makes them think a bit whereas if I say nudist the negative connotation immediately comes into their mind.

It depends with whom I am talking. If it's a textile person and I'm bringing up the topic, I will say skinnydipper. If it's someone who knows I'm a nudist, I'll use the term nudist. If it's a reporter or other marketing/pr issue, I'll use the term naturist.

I like the connotation of being close to nature that naturist engenders and therefore identify more with that term but I have no real preference.

Almost the same here, Cheri. Only I'v eneve rdiscusse dnudism with a reporter. I'v eused naturist when I'm not sure how someone will respond to nudist. Let them figure it out.

LOL I like that definition! Nudist just are naked while Naturists are in your face about it.

Bingo! That's the best one yet! "Textile Challenged". Good one.
