Nude Backcountry / Offgrid camping?
Anyone here with experience camping nude in the backcountry...?
I've never been super into the campground experience (CO or otherwise) but backcountry is something I'm far more interested in. Once I get my gear sorted I'm aiming to get out and 100% offgrid. We don't have the same National Park Service that the US has, but there is a network of land areas that as I understand work similar to the undeveloped NPS lands.
Thoughts?
Yeah, I haven't done it since moving to Cali, but back when I was in Upstate NY, there were many isolated lakes. There were several lakes that were more than a mile hike to get to and you'd never see a soul near them. I spent many weekends hiking out to them and camping (naked). I even managed to get a group of friends to go a couple of times. Being so remote was incredible, but even more so being naked out in nature like that. I do miss those days (but not the unpredictability of the weather).
Like you say, clothes are tools, and tools come in handy when you're camping to protect you from sun, bugs and poisons and thorns, etc. Otherwise keep them in your toolbox! It's great if you can be isolated enough to really be away from people. Anywhere within a hundred miles of Chicago it seems some large freindly dog on a walk will always find you. The good thing about nude backcountry camping is that the people who also go through all the effort of getting offgrid typically don't care if you're naked should your paths cross. That's what I experienced in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. Good luck!
Have found that same to be true of over night kayak trips into the more wilderness like areas of missouri along some of their rivers when you get past the haul out points for the commerecial floater , paddlers they flood the rivers with for short distances.
can stripoff and paddle skinny dip and most anyone you find out there is alos scantly dressed or not at all, its great
plust you dont have a bunch of prudist nudists telling you you cant walk around if it does stand up
When I was younger, late 20's early 30's I would take my horse and dog with supplies and go as far as I could for 3 day's, into the Pacific NW mountains away from everyone Set up a camp and moved it often around the high lakes and streams. I would be gone for 2 weeks a couple of times every summer and again in the fall, I was an Electrician and when I would finish a job for a company I would make my getaway before starting a new one. Those were the days, Now I've settled in and take it a little easier.
Backcountry camping is all I do, and I only camp naked. The trick is to get enough off the beaten path. You're not going to find good wilderness camping near a city of any size. Also, if you can avoid weekends (not always possible of course), that improves things considerably.
I have found that if you can drive there, so can everyone else. If you use a boat, that weeds out most of the crowds, but sometimes it's hard to find a high enough (and therefore not wet) spot to camp along shore that isn't private property. Good maps of the area help,
Backpacking also weeds out the crowds. The few people who have encountered me backpacking nude have either thought it was humorous, or have expressed that they wished they had the guts to do that.

This something on my naturist bucket list just need to find the right anyone with good leads in thUS Midwest please share.
Yes, done it many times. Hiked in naked then camped for a weekend or more. Often have to dress in evening due to colder temps. I have never gone with anyone else. When it comes time to go; They find an excuse to not get naked.
I have only hiked on Nation Forest area and trails. Often backpacking trails in remote areas other times taken a fire or gas line 'road'. The walk off into the woods to find a flat sunny area to set up a tent.
I think you better off looking for places that natural hotsprings. They often have a couple of nude people that sit there or hike there. They will be a bit more open to it.
Ive been on two naked backpacking trips, last year and this year, on the summer solstice a.k.a. Nude Hiking Day. Last year was a bit stressful due to some underprepared guys in the group; this year had a great time. In the US we tend to stick to National Park/Forest lands bc the nudity regulations are less strict (as I understand it).
