My First Experience
Trip Report Bluebonnet Naturists Resort
March 15 16, 2009
This was my very first visit to a nudist resort and my introduction to nude recreation. After deciding that social nudity was something I wanted to experience and explore, I had been eagerly anticipating this first visit for days. Finally the day arrived, Sunday, March 15, and I made my first trip to a naturist resort. Before leaving home, I packed up my tent, sleeping bag and other gear along with towels and other items that were suggested on the web site and then I was on the road around 12:30 p.m.
Driving from the central part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, it took me about an hour and 20 minutes to reach Bluebonnet, located adjacent to the LBJ National Grasslands, about four miles north of Decatur, Texas. I was happily making my way along the highway, excitement and anticipation continuing to build. Finally I arrived at the turn-off to the road leading to the resort and began following it towards the entrance gate. After a little less than a mile, the gates came into sight and my excitement became more transformed into nervousness. Arriving at the imposing steel electronically controlled gates I stopped the car and took a couple of deep breaths before pushing the intercom button.
I chose this particular day for my visit day because while I generally work on weekends, I happened to have a Sunday off. I also selected it because of the fact that the owner of resort during our conversation had told me he didnt expect a very large crowd since it was early in the season and the weather had been cool and rainy. Since this would be my very first casual public nudity experience, I really thought not having to face a huge crowd might be a little less intimidating and would help me feel comfortable with it a bit faster. After identifying myself at the intercom, the gates swung open to admit me and I continued on to the Welcome Center, located immediately past the entrance on the right.
Stepping out of the car I was immediately greeted by the owner. I had sort of expected to be greeted by a staff member, rather than the actual owner so I was impressed by that. He was dressed which surprised me because I guess I assumed the staff would be naked. It was however still a bit cool when I arrived. The owner spent over a half hour talking with me after I arrived, telling me about the history of the place and about some of the facilities and activities available. I felt he was trying to help me get over feeling nervous but also could tell that he was sort of checking me out to make certain I was a stand up guy. He even admitted later in our conversation that he had done so. I didnt mind that at all because it demonstrated that he has a lot of consideration for his membership and wasnt just profit driven. Another thing that impressed me was that he provided me the names of several other resorts close to where I live and he encouraged me to try all of them before deciding on where I might want to be a member, explaining that each resort is different, has different facilities and a different clientele.
After our discussion, the owner checked my identification, made a copy of my drivers license and had me complete some brief paperwork to check-in. He went over the resort rules and then gave me some preliminary information on memberships and costs. After taking care of the financial end of my visit, he then escorted me to a building (which I later learned was the clubhouse). On arrival, he had me remove my clothes before starting the tour and he removed his as well, I think to make me feel more comfortable. I was actually amazed by how nice the clubhouse was. There was a spacious dining room, dance floor, big screen television with satellite service, a Wii setup, a game room, a sun room with lots of comfortable seating and a fully equipped commercial type kitchen. Adjacent was the pool area, with two pools (although one is under renovation), spacious sun decks with lots of loungers and chairs, a large hot tub and sauna. Across the street there were tennis courts and a sand volley ball pit. Everything was very clean and well kept.
After a very nice tour, the owner invited me to walk around a bit, explore the grounds and to choose a camp site. He also invited me to use any of the facilities I wished even the kitchen as long as I cleaned up after myself. I was given my pick of sites as there were no other tent guests during my visit and there were lots to choose from. I did not need electric but that was available if desired and I did have water on my site. The fee for all tent sites at Bluebonnet, even those with electric and water are very reasonable, only $5 per day. The grounds were all well kept and lots of effort had been put into landscaping.
After walking around a bit I chose my camp site and started setting up. It was a nice location just across the street from the clubhouse making for easy access to everything. After setting up the tent and getting everything unloaded and in order, I headed straight for the nature trails for my first nude hike. The sun was bright and the conditions were near perfect by that time and it was amazing how nice the sun felt on my skin. I was actually surprised with how quickly I became comfortable being outdoors completely nude. While there werent any other short-term guests during my stay, the resort has a good number of permanent residents and so I did encounter other people from time to time. For the most part they were clothed, either on there way to someplace or on their way back but with no exceptions everyone was friendly and since they didnt seem to notice I was naked, I didnt feel at all uncomfortable that they were clothed and I wasnt.
The first day I pretty much spent exploring the resort but did take time for my first every nude run and did an easy two miles. After a shower, I then prepared my dinner and then just hung out until about 9:30 p.m. when it started to feel pretty chilly. I turned in for the night and did a little reading. Im an ardent backpacker, so I enjoyed a very restful night and slept well. Awakening about 8:30 a.m., it was still quite cold out so I had to throw on a fleece jacket and a pair of sweat pants while I had breakfast and coffee. About 10:30 a.m. it started to warm up again where it was comfortable to go clothes free. I spent the morning taking a second 2 mile run and then sunbathed beside the pool until lunch time. After lunch I showered and then enjoyed a dip in the hot tub. A pool was available but it wasnt heated so it was a bit cold for my liking. The hot tub however was fabulous. I then tried out the sauna, my first time in one of those. I did a little more hiking on the nature trails which were well groomed and very nice walking and then grabbed a book and spent some more time lounging by the pool. By 4:00 p.m. I was starting to feel the effects of the sun, especially on those areas where I never get sun and decided I better get packed up and headed home. I rounded up my things and packed the car and by 5:00 I was ready to leave. At least my stuff was ready but I wasnt really ready. I hated the thought of having to put clothes on again after more than 24 hours of being nude. Finally I forced myself to put on a polo shirt and pair of shorts and not surprisingly it felt as bad as I expected.
By the end of my visit, I had encountered quite a few people even naked ones and never once felt out of place or uncomfortable. Everyone spoke if close by or waved if at a distance. It was a fabulous experience and a most pleasant two days. I finally felt the freedom and naturalness that Ive read about. All of the ideas of illicit nudity went out the window and there I was, walking with nothing on but my tennis shoes, sunscreen and my towel around my shoulder.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Bluebonnet Naturists Resort and plan to visit there again. While the owner was almost apologetic over the fact that there werent more people on hand, this wasactuallythe perfect low key introduction for me. Next time Ill go when the season is in full swing so there will be more guests to socialize with. I think these past two days have allowed me to get over the inevitable shyness as a newcomer.

Yes, I had a fabulous time! Thank you. And thanks for the tip! I hate that code! LOL
Okay, now that I can REALLY read it...what a great first time experience! Thank you for sharing that with us and I know it will be helpful to others who have not yet experienced social or outdoor nudity.

p.s. I got the HTML tip from Phil...check out the computer group, he's posted lots of great tips there!
I'm glad you had a good first experience. My sweet wife and I also had our first experiences with social nudity back in late November, and experienced all the same emotions and feelings. Sure is a neat thing, now, though! Welcome to the club!

Glad to hear you had a positive time nudernr. It sounds like you really took to the club. I've not being inclined to join a club, I like the beach and I'm not sure what clubs have to offer me. Have you being back since this visit?
Hi camlite,
Yes, I did really enjoy visiting the club but havent been back yet due to scheduling reasons. Either the weather hasnt been favorable when I was off from work or Ive been working when the weather was nice. I definitely do plan to visit again this summer but there are two other local clubs I plan to visit before making a decision on which one to join as a member. Here there is only one clothing optional beach near enough to be practical for me and since I dont have a home with a private backyard, resorts are the best option for me right now.
My first experience was about 14 years ago when I went to a nudist park because I wanted to go skinny-dipping like I used to at the Y before it went co-ed.
Prior to that visit I had never gone around nude for an extended period of time and never in mixed company. I had no problem undressing in the presence of other males like in locker rooms or cabins at camp. At the nudist resort I went skinny-dipping and at the end of the day went to the shower room (co-ed) to rinse off. The drying area was quite humid so I decided "What the heck, I have been going around outside nude all day long, why not go outside on the deck to dry off?" When I did that I felt the warm gentle breeze and the sun drying off my body. I did not even need the towel. That convinced me that there was nothing really wrong with being nude and I could not wait to fulfill the requirements to become a member. Not long after that I joined a lot of other nudist groups and went to a lot of their meetings, festivals, and gatherings. I have also gone to nude beaches and have been on nude cruises. Little did I know on my first visit I would become such an avid nudist. I now live in a clothing optional community where I, and my neighbors, can go around for nude for days on end without ever putting on uncomfortable clothing.
