Can naturism help the disabled?

Can society become more accepting of people with disabilities through naturism?

RE:Can naturism help the disabled?

That's an interesting story, particularly since the handicap in this case was blindness. With a blind person, it shouldn't make any difference whether the people around him were clothed or not. For a blind person, clothing is simply a matter of personal comfort, and whatever might be required by a sighted society.

In my own experiences with social nudity, I've seen a few people with disabilities... somebody in a wheelchair, somebody with a missing limb, somebody with scars, and so on. But I can't say whether the ratio was any different from what it would have been in a clothed environment, or whether their disability was an impediment to nudism. I certainly would say that I've never seen a person with disabilities treated any differently from a non-disabled person.

RE:Can naturism help the disabled?

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your brother. I too have a handicapped brother and can empathize how it may be a gift but that doesn't make it easy.
Nudity is a great equalizer and I believe that applies to disabilities as well. Of course it can help the disabled, and I'd like to think that naturists and nudists are more accepting.
In the US we need to first overcome gender inequality in nudism regardless of abilities. Your brother would have been discriminated against entering resorts unless he were chaperoned by a woman. Once I was at a weekend event where being "sky clad" was acceptable, but I wasn't allowed to participate in a sweat lodge naked because the woman running it though penises were inherently offensive.
At my gym there are regulars with disabilities, though few use the locker room in general. Acceptance of disabilities has improved drastically since my brother and I were kids; acceptance of any public nudity has unfortunately almost disappeared here in the puritanical midwestern US.
