Speaking of swimming trunks, I have at times considered mowing the lawn in swim briefs, but I never actually did it.
Has anyone done so?
If I lived on a lightly traveled residential street I would have been more likely to, but I live on a busy through street,
Minimalist75, a pair of boy-leg style TIGHT swim trunks sound like a pretty good "cover option" for mowing the front yard, as would a pair of Speedo's. I have both. I'll have to get them out and do an assessment of their "coverage".
Johngw, when you say you have mowed in "transparent shorts", do you actually mean "SHEER" ? If so, depending on the color of the shorts, wearing them to mow in view of passing traffic, neighbors, etc. would be pretty BOLD!...especially if they were ALL you were wearing!
Yesterday's discussion about the cut-off jean look-alike shorts had me going through my drawers, looking for them. While I was doing that, I came across two pairs of shorts/underwear that I think would fit Johngw's description. One is a sheer, BLACK pair of boxer style shorts, with a band of satin trim around the edges of the legs. The other is a pair of WHITE boxer style shorts. The white shorts are not QUITE as sheer as the black ones. Mowing the front yard in EITHER of those shorts would require a TOP of some sort, I think.
Part of my problem is: the front yard is sorta "large". It wraps, in a curve, around the front of my house and down the side. Mowing it takes a FULL HOUR... all of which time I would be exposed to passing traffic AND the neighbors. I've lived in this house for over 20 years and I'm on a first-name basis with quite a few of them, especially those that live "across the street". DISCRETION, in this case, would be the better part of valor. LOL. BUT... we'll see!

I would suggest that you try one or more of the minimal clothing options that you have for mowing the front lawn and see if the neighbors comment. While they may not like it, you can't get in legal trouble. If they seem supportive, inquire if it would be OK if you were nude.
I wouldn't recommend saying what I said to my sons when they would complain that my shorts were too short or my swimming took brief, "If you don't like what I am wearing, I will take it off"

Similar to the alleged response of a woman who was told that she was not allowed to wear a 2-piece swimming costume - "Which piece do you want me to take off."

If this site had a "like" option, I would have used it here!
